Are you Afraid of the Dark?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum but I'll let the mods decide.

Anyways, Are you Afraid of the Dark was a popular series that aired on Nickelodeon's Snick. It featured a group of kids that called themselves the Midnight society who would meet up in the local woods and tell each other creepy stories every episode. At the start of each spooky adventure/mystery, the story teller would sprinkle some sort of dusty substance on to the camp fire and say the words: ''Submitted for the approval of The Midnight society, I call this story, the Tale of the...''.

So I was wondering if this amazing series is ever coming to DVD? If it is already on DVD does anyone know where I could find a DVD collection of some sort with all the episodes? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Wow I remember that show. The ones I remember the most involve that kid that worked in a mall and somehow got trapped into a Pinball game basically. I remember one about aliens, some kids sister was an alien and that one freaked me. And I remember a hospital one... Wow I want the DVD too if their is one. :D

YES! I remember those episodes as well. Honestly, it was the best show that aired on Nickelodeon's Snick.

I found one site. But I'm not going to list it because they're selling it on DVD+Rs. Kinda dodgy, and probably means there is no official DVD release.

yeah, it was a cool show. Watched it all the time along with Salute Your Shorts, and Hey Dude. Love the classics

There probably won't be a AYAOTD DVD for a little while. The only two Nick shows that have been released so far on the Nick Rewind Collection are Clarissa Explains It All and The Adventures of Pete and Pete, both of which now have been stopped until a later date. So unless they skip finishing up those two series, I don't think AYAOTD will come out on the Nick Rewind Collection any time soon.

a long while ago i looked them up on ebay... people are only selling personal taped copies, or like someone said above DVD+Rs.... also, there were several eps that only aired in like Canada or something so it's really hard to find the total number of episodes and whatnot... some are rare or long lost, etc... i loved that show though (Y) :D

Just for clarification.. The show was not from Nick. It's a Canadian show from the TV channel YTV. It was picked up by Nick because it was so good ;).

If I remember correctly, it was a joint production between YTV, Nickelodeon, and some other company, but now Nick has the rights to the show as they created the updated version of the series in the late 90s.

id buy this on dvd in a heartbeat... whats these companies thinking? get them out there!

on another note... if you "search around" you can find the seasons listed on "certain websites" but it doesnt seem like there's too much "interest" in them. can we petition whoever holds the rights to the show to release them on dvd? ;)

Well the reason the Nick Rewind Collection has stopped is because of a change in Viacom's management. Hopefully once everything settles they will start back up with those two series and move on to even more series like AYAOTD and YCDTOTV.

Wasn't aware of the late 90's version. But the original was definetly Canadian, and had many Canadian actors appearing in them.

Ryan Gosling was one of those actors.

i used to watch this show right when it was about to end. one of nick's best show's to date. to bad all the fairy crap and cartoon spiders is dumbing down kids today. "just my opinion"

(Quick Edit)

Somebody should do an online petition to get Nickelodeon to release an dvd.

Like I said before, the Rewind Collection has stopped due to a restructure of Management at Viacom, but hopefully when that is complete they will start rolling out the current series and hopefully more new ones.

wow i used to watch that show after that other show was on what was it called, it was about these kids from around the world and compete in these events and did crazy things like climb a huge mountain thing, i think it was called the agrocrag
