360 on PC Monitor.

Recommended Posts

I bought the 360 VGA cables, and hooked my 360 up to my computer monitor. Now, I didn't want to deal with unplugging the 360 to use the computer, so I bought a KVM switch from BestBuy.

The switch is a VGA/USB KVM by iogear. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1067390694346

The VGA cables for 360 came with a VGA genderchanger, as well as Audio to Mini adapter so that I could hook it up to my computer speaker. The xbox instantly recognised that a VGA wire was being used for output, and changed its display settings to 800x600 4:3. I was easily able to go and change that to 1024x768. The monitor recognised the output from the 360, and changed resolutions accordingly. (Someone I was actually worried about)

The KVM switch was easy to set up, and allows me to simply tap ScrLk twice on my keyboard to switch screens. Both the 360 and PC pump output through the switch with no degradation.

I am very pleased with this set up so far. The 19in Viewsonic monitor I use displays the 360 graphics wonderfully. The games look very impressive, and in very high detail. This is a nice, fairly cheap solution for someone who wants the 360 in High Def, but cannot afford a plasma HDTV at this time.

(I have an HDTV projector, but, if I am playing games during the day I cannot block out enough ambient light.)

I'll take some pics when I get home from work.

I was really impressed at how versitile the 360 is when It comes to recognising the type of device it is outputing to. I remember setting up the original xbox for use with my projector, and I had to hook up only the Green component cable first, and then change the xbox setting, and then I could hook up all of the rest of the component cables. Jeesh.

Any KVM switch will do, but, since the 360 is right next to the computer, I figured that an unpowered KVM would work fine. (you can also buy powered KVM switches, but I think they are more pricey). This IOGear switch gets its power from the USB connection. Which also piggybacks the keyboard input.

Just 2 taps of the ScrLk button, and I am up and running!

At the moment I have to lean behind my computer and switch out the VGA every time I want to use computer/xbox 360. Whats the most economical KVM switch I could get (cheapest, but will do what I need)? Also, at the moment I do hook up my audio through my sound card, but I just have stereo speakers so I could get a splitter and then a genderchanger to hook it directly into my speakers and bypass my pc, right?

I got the VGA thing for the 360 and now i have it hooked to my Dell 2005FPW....slightly stretched since its 16:10 instead of 16:9, but i still really like it....and no need for a KVM switch since it supports PIP/auto switching

Audio get's decoded to my receiver via SPDIF-in on my audigy and gets out in 5.1

I'm going to be picking up one of these KVM so I can easily switch between my X360 and PC. Would this work fine? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817107601

I'll mainly need it just to switch between two VGA imputs (my desktop / xbox) for the monitor, so I won't really need it for the USB/Mouse since I only have one set. That should work fine for what I need, sharing one monitor for two machines, right?

So do you need to leave your PC on all the time to get audio? Or is the audigy external and can be used when the PC is off?

I may do the same whilst I'm waiting for my HDTV to be delivered.
