Quboid
I've been reading reviews of MP3 players and the iRiver H340 stands out, mainly due to being the only 30GB+ player with OGG support that I can find. I've heard that the battery life very quickly suffers, so after a few months it only lasts a few hours - has anyone here found this? Fedorpheux
I've owned my H340 for quite a while (definitely at least a few months) and I haven't really noticed any decrease in battery life. But then again, I'm not much of one to listen to hours and hours of music on it between charging it. Usually I just listen to bit during the day and then charge it each night. Still, the battery life hasn't disappointed me at all. Probably the only big downside about this player is that the navigation interface (when selecting songs and such) kind of sucks, especially in comparison to the Ipod touch wheel thing. Also, many people have mistaken mine for an Ipod and then they mention how "huge" and "fat" it is (which is only because of these recent thinner Ipods). Then I tell them that I've had mine long before Ipod Videos came out and it was cheaper and it works as a removeable harddrive without any need for drivers. Plus I think that I can handle the extra 3 millimeters or whatever the difference is. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/436966-iriver-h340-battery-life/#findComment-587247638 Share on other sites
planetik
Well with Rockbox, the song scrolling isn't a problem for me The H300 series IS fat, but I found out that thin isn't all that great, because sometimes it feels like it'll slip out of your hands. About the battery life, I've had my H320 for a year and a bit, and it has reduced to 20 min of play time :( I'm not a heavy listener either. Anyhoo, my replacement battery (2200mAh, was intended for iPod generations 1 and 2) that lasts 23+ hours on original iRiver firmware is on the way. That's compared to the 16 hours original. And to be honest, the H340 IS discontinued, and I'd rather get the Creative Vision:M if you had the extra cash. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/436966-iriver-h340-battery-life/#findComment-587247663 Share on other sites
kombolcha
i have the H320.. i've had it for about a year and a half now.. at one point there was one firmware version i upgraded to (1.27 i think) and there was a bug with that.. battery only lasted about 10 hours.. now i have version 1.29 and it'll last me about 15 - 16 hours now.. i do a full charge every week. Quboid
Hmm, thats quite mixed then. The Vision:M doesn't play Ogg so it's a non-starter. I didn't know the H340 was discontinued, I wonder why. Too many returns? New model to be annouced soon? I've come across the iAudio range, the X5L looks pretty damn good. I'm currently trying to find an Australian retailer to get some pricing info. Anyone any experience with a Cowon iAudio hard drive player (M3, M5 or X5)? Quboid
Is the H10 designed to replace the H300 series? OK, unlike the H300 series, it doesn't look fugly, but it seems like quite a different beast, particularly in size. Anyway, I'm going off the H300 series, too many bad reports. I'm looking for info and retailers of the iAudio X5 series. Sarm
H340 is *BY FAR* the best media player out there, if anyone can tell what (and why) they found something better, I'd like to know. My H340 battery failed in the first 3 months, but iRiver simply replaced it with a new one, which I've now had for over 12 months and it's running perfectly. And the H300 series has NOT been replaced by anything, the H10 is a very different beast. Quboid
What waiting times? When trying to get a battery replaced? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/436966-iriver-h340-battery-life/#findComment-587258012 Share on other sites
kombolcha
ah there are two waiting times.. 1. if you call customer support.. that takes a while.. if you're lucky, just a few minutes.. and they only work M - F 2. when you power on the H3xx series depending on the amount of space you've taken it it'll take longer to turn on.. so if you used up about 13GB of the 20.. it'll take about 10seconds to turn on. you get used to it.
