Matt T
I'm almost 100% certain that's just a custom made image he made to match Mac OS X' default grey boot screen. Wouldn't be surprised if you could replace it with anything you want. Or do you mean something else? If you take a look at this photo, you can see black ripples on the screen caused by the LCD pixels. Now take another look at the Windows logo screen - no such ripples are present. .Neo
Possibly because of the solid background? I know that when taking pictures of a monitor some backgrounds work better than others. I does look a bit too perfect, can't argue with that. Malisk
Yes, everyone can stop speculating any fakeness in the screenshots. The contest has now been won, and therefore also been checked by several people and confirmed to be a valid solution. Slashdot has an article up here now: http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/03/16/1329206 A thread on osx86project.org has confirmations from several testers that the procedure works on the 17" iMac, the Mac mini, and the MacBook Pro. I know there are at least a few excited about this. :) Mac's can dual boot Windows XP natively! :D And congrats to the winner for $14K. edit: Oh, and this winning project will now be launched into a full open source project for maintenance into the future. :) Edited March 16, 2006 by Jugalator Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/441650-intel-imac-running-xp/page/11/#findComment-587314303 Share on other sites

myNando
Wow! Once the Macs have the two OS's installed, I wonder how they get it to start up in either OSX or XP... nicedreams
Easiest way to make a fake would be to have a PC under his desk and have the monitor part of the MAC plugged into the PC so it looks like he's doing it on a MAC. Since you see the Mac monitor (which works on PC) and a case or a visual of a Mac, it could get you to think that it is real. If it is real.... More power to him. I would think Apple would have more sales if you could just take any PC and put OSX on it. Some people have beefy hardware and dual booting with XP/OSX I would think would make more sales. All Linux distro's can dual boot with XP, why not an OSX version that can? Is it because of hardware compatiblity? Does OSX only work with a handfull of hardware? jackwanders
Eww, a Mini? Those will never be all that anyone could want in a computer. Their graphics card can't even handle HD. I'd rethink it if I were you, but if you're sure it's what you want then go for it! Can't handle HD? The new Mac Mini handles HD resolutions and Core Video quite easily. At least the duo version does. I mean, why else would it ship with iMovie HD? Why else would a website dedicated to HD release THIS article? Easiest way to make a fake would be to have a PC under his desk and have the monitor part of the MAC plugged into the PC so it looks like he's doing it on a MAC. First, can you even hook an iMac to an external computer? The iMac is an all-in-one, there is no separate case. As for releasing OSX for PCs...this has been beat to death a billion times. .Neo
According to a Dutch Mac OS X forum you can select the OS of your choice (either Mac OS X or Windows) by pressing the arrow keys during the grey Apple boot screen. With the arrow keys you can toggle between an Apple logo (which will boot Mac OS X when leaving it alone) or a Windows flag (which will boot Windows when leaving it alone). It will boot Mac OS X when completely leaving it alone at all times. If that's really the case it's a more than decent way to dual boot if you ask me. No crappy selection menu's etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/441650-intel-imac-running-xp/page/11/#findComment-587314605 Share on other sites

User009172271
from what i see in the instruction we have to format the drive. highsea said that you could resize the harddrive with the disk utility, anyone knows how to do that ???, and in the instruction there dosen't seem to be anywhere a place that says you have to create a boot partition but during the windows installed it says that we can see one ... (does the mac os install creates it ? )... ?!?
