I'm wondering, if it's just me or all iPods, but are the EQ settings on iPods just trash?

I love bass. But turning bass booster on my Mini just really distorts the sound, and it truthfull sounds like ****. Are there any hacks to improve this?

I'm planning on replacing the earbuds (with Shure E3c's). I don't think them alone will improve the sound of the ipod. I've tested other earphones/buds and it doesn't improve sound.

THanks.

The distortion is still the earbuds I assume. I have a decent pair of Sony ones and I have the bass up loads on my 4g Greyscale and its great.

I use a custom EQ in iTunes - applied it to all the tracks and coupled with the Bass Boost EQ on your iPod provides a good bass.

^ Creating custom EQ settings within iTunes does not affect the iPod.

See the following: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61567

1. iPod does not use custom equalizer settings made in iTunes.

2. You can't create custom equalizer settings on iPod, or transfer custom settings to iPod.

It's usually crap earbuds. I own a pair of Etymotic ER4P's which I have hooked up to a very nice little portable external amp which is connected via the iPod's line out and I have pre-ordered a pair of Shure E500's and my own experience of the sound that can be obtained from an iPod is often nothing short of being jaw dropping. Sometimes it can be quite embarrassing if you are walking about in a store and are suddenly swept up in a vast wave of musical and emotional rapture, as the temptation can be to simply drop to your knees in awe - but usually thankfully, it is possible to contain yourself.

For comprehensive advice on the best portable solution, you could do worse than pay a visit to www.headfi.org, as those guys really are the experts on how to make a mobile set up sound good. Be careful with your wallet though - as it is not uncommon for a man to leave there significantly poorer than when he first arrived.

Why stop at what sounds like a half decent sound - why not pursue the perfect sound instead?

I read up on this when I first got my iPod. the problem is that the iPod hardware doesn't re-process the music with cutom EQ settings because it doesn't have a chip to perform that task. Creative's players have hardware built in to perform such functions. Honestly, I thought my iPod was defective when I first enabled thr Rock EQ setting. This will be a problem until Apple updates the hardware. There is an app that is supposed to adjust the volume of your files to compensate for this:

Also read here:

It also makes adjustments to AAC files as well. Others have had success with this so I hope the same for you. I just stopped using the EQ.
