Windows Vista 5342 Screenshots

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, March 24th, Microsoft released to testers a new build of Windows Vista, Build 5342.

Thanks to X64Bit.net for the screenshots and the info. They write, Included in this build is an extensive collection of drivers and the exclusive sidebar. Glass is also a feature that we all have come to respect and love, along with the 3D flip.

The official version number is 6.0 Version 5342.winmain_idx04.060321-1730. Internet Explorer 7.0 is build Version 7.0.5342.2. Nice features include a new "Paint" and needed redesigned network center.

Be prepared to have your system "Rated" again by this OS, and don?t be disappointed by the rating, as things will improve as the OS improves. This version includes an "Ultimate Extras" services (live update, windows live) for those who "own" a copy of window Vista.

I'm still trying to figure out why they released a new build when the the previous build was only released a few weeks ago. Does this mean that they're going to skip the April CTP (which was suppose to be the first public release) and release one in May, probably around the time for WinHEC?

[EDIT] Paul Thurrott has the next release due May 24, 2006, so I guess that really answers my question. But why not just hold off releasing another build until this instead of throwing this interim build at us?

Microsoft copy Apple, Apple copy Microsoft. Big Deal get over it!

Chill man. I was only saying. :pinch:

Looks cool :) ....so if the "Glass" theme we see at the moment is only "Aero Express with Transparency" which I think looks cool enough already....what exactly is the real "Aero" gonna be like? I know no-one actually knows as MS have kept it well hidden...but what do you guys think it might be?

Hahaha oh, oh that makes me laugh.

So, its like the osx dock in what way? That it has icons that you can click on to open applications? Woah! Never saw that before osx, right? Oh no...

I know its not final yet, but its getting closer, any word on stability ? is it usable, is the sound layer working fully, is media center working fully ?

Its pretty stable... honestly... I never liked media center cuz it seemed kinda useless and kinda non-functional sometimes(atleast for me...). But yea, its pretty stable. :)

This 3D flippable window feature sounds interesting, but what is its purpose?

A better alternative to Alt+Tab

Ok, thanks. :) I presume the other programs running are on the oppositee side of the window then, or something?

Not sure about the gradients. A gradient is a gradient, but the green is a bit ugly I guess. In previous screenshots I've seen, it was blue. Maybe it was changed, or maybe its configurable.

Since when does Apple copy Microsoft? I'm not trying to be mean, but I just want to know

To distract people from how bad the rest of the OS is :p

God, Vista is getting worse and worse in appearance. Such clutter. Horrible.

I'm not a Mac guy at all, but damn it, just please compare that hell of Fisher price UI design and clutter against OSX appearance. There's really no comparison. Clarity in Vista my ass.

CLUTTERED AND HORRIBLE:

@Boz - I fail to see your point exactly, as the screenshots fail to compare them fairly. Your comparing an image which has 2 apps open side by side, with one that has a browser on a webpage, with an app open on top. If you want to compare them in clutter, you need two images with much the same kinda setup.

I'm not saying that one is more cluttered than the other, just that it isn't a fair comparison. The fairest comparison possible would be a screenshot of each systems appearance as soon as it has booted for the first time (before it gets human input on the desktop/content). :)
