Well, since Rollins' streak is already over I think this question is a little late lol. But as for the question itself, even Rollins said he realized it wasn't the same accomplishment. One is a single season record and one would not be. Whether they'd have to suddenly make a new statistic category after such an accomplishment or whatever it's not the same record.

I think it's two completely different records in the first place...

There is a single season hitting streak and a multi-season hitting streak. Either way it should count because there is already two different records.

I dont think there are two different records for this. I have never heard it called a 56 game single season hitting streak! Only a 56 consecutive game streak. I have argued this topic with many people over the past few weeks. I know that Rollins is done but if and when this record is broken (NEVER!) if it happens over two seperate seasons how can anyone say it isnt legit?
