nexionly
I clicked the zoom button twice (didn't even mean to) and it went all long like this. I tried restarting and what not I don't know how to make it go back to the normal size  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/453953-finder-window/ Share on other sites
.Neo
Delete com.apple.finder.plist located in ~/Library/Preferences I HATE that goddamned Zoom button. It hardly ever resizes the window back to the way it was. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/453953-finder-window/#findComment-587431035 Share on other sites

.Neo
After removing the plist file you'll have to restart the Finder... It has to work. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/453953-finder-window/#findComment-587431083 Share on other sites
nexionly
it worked sorta. When I go to finder and go to the "new finder window open:" and put it to applications, it re-opens the same way, but when I put it back to HOME it opens normally. .Neo
You'll have to find and delete al DSStore files (hidden) in order to fix that (I think) but all your folder preferences like custom icons, icon sizes etc. will be lost. nexionly
where are those? what exactly should I be looking for and where? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/453953-finder-window/#findComment-587431114 Share on other sites
.Neo
Download a system utility like TinkerTool or Cocktail (Google them) and enable hidden files and folders. You'll notice that every folder has it's own DSStore file. Delete those at your own risk. I'm a bit amazed by the fact all your folders actually adapted to that weird size. :/ You sure it's not only the folders you opened after the "accident"? nexionly
it only happens when i open the finder from the dock, and furthermore it only happens when i have that selected to open in the applications folder. right now i have set to open to my home folder, so when I open the finder from the dock it opens to my home folder and its fine. but if I change it to open to the applications folder, it will open long like that. Im gonna try running system maintenance and see if that does anything. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted April 20, 2006 Veteran Share Posted April 20, 2006 It will take a while, but you can drag it using the edges of the finder window, so you can drag it up (so you end up at the bottom), then resize it. This was a bug introduced in Tiger, in Panther zooming the finder window would make it fit the items, but in Tiger it zooms too far, making the icons wrap, so when you press it again it shrinks into the space where the icons were, but causes them to wrap again. nexionly
that didn't work, however... I changed the screen resolution and it made the size thing available and I was able to resize it! phew! Thanks for your help guys  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/453953-finder-window/#findComment-587433100 Share on other sites

Somehow I've always had the feeling that Tiger has more of these weird bugs than Panther ever did. What annoys me is that they're still here after six 10.4.x updates.
