Am I going completely bonkers or did I completely miss anyone ever mentioning one of the most useful freeware programs I ever downloaded- Daemon Tools (Virtual drive creator for mounting image files).

Great for dvd images- just click the icon by your clock, select one of your created 'virtual' drives (up to 4!!) and select a disk image to mount onto it, and you're away. Works a treat.

Also, the best dvd back-up program, DVD Shrink. Use this to create your dvd images, and it can shrink the size of a dvd to around 2-3gb if you choose 'custom' size. You can of course burn directly to a dvd disk using Nero or DVD Decrypter.

I think someone has already mentioned this one, but I must give the link to The KMPlayer, a media player that has virtually every video option you can think of. It will play all music, video, and dvd files or disks. I have spent the last week or so trying various programs that are either free or have free trials (to name a few: VLC, Media Player Classic, GOM Player, WinDVD, Power DVD), and this one is completely free and completely the best video player I think I have ever downloaded- straight up! It has the best quality video due to all the filters and tweaks at the users disposal. The player can be as simple or complex as the user requires, and there are also various skins downloadable from the site. The only thing you must do is register for free on the site before you can download- there is no adware or spyware involved and nothing will be sent to your email address. I had already downloaded the K-Lite Mega codec pack before downloading The KMPlayer, so I am unsure how the internal codecs fair without K-Lite installed.

I downloaded this myself a while ago and found it to be a very worthwhile download- especially as it includes the Cyberlnk dvd decoder.

However, a word of warning- I had to uninstall and then install again not including any mp3 decoders, as the first installs mp3 decoders seemed to interfere with WMP11 playback of mp3 tracks, and made them crackle and pop. Once I uninstalled K-Lite the problem was fixed instantly, and so I installed again unticking any mp3 decoders etc, and all is now fine.
