Up to 50% Price Cuts by AMD

Recommended Posts

Somehow I don't believe any of these price cuts until I actually see them.

sceptical it would be that big a drop too. Halfing the price on their top product? Hmm I dunno. I would suspect there will be price drops but and one that large may be necessary if they cant compete with intel performance wise.

Will the FX series have any cuts?

The only reasons I can see me getting an AMD CPU instead of the Conroe E6600 is if the X2 5000 is reduced by 50% - should make it around ?230 ish then or if Intel have managed to fool all of us, and conroe stinks (which i can't see happening because it would damage intels reputation too much).

Still, very good for the consumer, although probably not very good for AMD (profit wise).

now now guys... next thing you know... core 2 duo could out-perform the x2, so dont jump the gun in deciding what processor to get just yet...

Oh it will, while consuming less power as well. Honestly, these price cuts won't make any difference, the Conroe is just a better chip at the same or less cost.

The biggest problem for Intel will be keeping up with demand.

Id probably still get an X2 becuase all id need to change in the processor to get dual core.

if i didnt already have a socket 939 board that supports x2 proccessors (thanks to a bios update) then i might not be so tempted by the amd price cuts if as people say the new intel core is better for price vs perfomance.

but as it would probably cost me considerbly more to change over (new motherboad, possibly ram as well) in my pertular case...

Hmm. When I first when I saw this article I made the comment (in the comments section) that Conroe would still be a better deal price/performance wise. Then 2 guys responded to me and somewhat changed my mind. Now I am on the forum and reading and you guys have changed my minds once again. I have no clue wth Conroe is going to be like and when exactly it will be available and when supplies will be available. I do know that the X2 3800+ and the Opteron 165 have performed very well especially when overclocked so if AMD cuts their prices I may just have to jump on them. Unless you guys can convince me otherwise of course.

fixed :D. The only question is by how much and how the price/performance stacks up

well the E6600 ($316) matches and beats the FX-60 (that would mean the X2 5000 aswell) and Fx-62 in benchmarks. And you know how much the X2 5000 and the FX series are. Although how much that tranfsers into real world preformance, we don't know yet.

Good time to sit back and do nothing

The 3200 is going to be about ?60 which means the 64 chips are comming to a really realistic price - I got this XP 2500 when it was about ?55 so similar times

It's already only ?69 on some sites, the 3800 is at ?95.16 at microdirect.co.uk
