I want to use the New Standard one but... the computer won't let me delete the files! The uxtheme.dll, and aero.mss or whatever the heck they are. The ones that have to be replaced, that is.

Help!

You need to take ownership of the file(s) first. Then youll be able to change the permissions.

Right click the file

Properties

Security Tab

Advanced

Owner Tab

Edit

Then select the user from the list that you want to give ownership to.

Then you will probably still have to give your self permissions too.

Right click the file

Properties

Security Tab

Advanced

Edit

Edit

Then tick the check boxes.

Ecat, hope you don’t mind. I took this from your post. You explain it well. :)

how do i replace the damn uxtheme.dll?? i have tried manually, with replacer, nothing works. i liked the fugal theme, but im having problems changing the uxtheme.dll . someone please explain

Right click the file.

Go to “Security”.

Click the “advance” button.

Go to “auditing”.

Click “edit”.

Then click “add”. Add the user you want to have the permission. Give full permission. Click ok.

And ok, again in the next box.

Then go to “owner”.

Click “edit”. If your user is in the list, select it and click “apply. If not, add the user.

Then you can go to the “permission”, and click edit. Add user……….like before.

Some files don’t require all the steps. But I think you need this in this case.

There is a lot of Protection in Vista.

If you are not familiar with that, then take a look at this page. It explain how to go around the problem
