Windows Live Messenger Updated!

Anyone else notice the download page from Microsoft.com mysteriously disappeared? The download is no longer available in webpage form but the direct link still seems to be up for now.

Yep, they removed .792:

"The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this message when trying to access this download, go to the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page."

I'm waiting till saturday for Msn Plus Live before installing anymore patches from Microsoft, Seems this new build is mucked up

Mess.be patch wont work with this release so another reason i'm staying with the first build of Live :shifty:

Wait till saturday and they be releasing another patch for Mess.be

From the Mess.be Homepage:

In other news, Messer auroras discovered the following recently added Yahoo! Messenger references in the online help file:

"If you are sending a message to a Yahoo! Messenger address, enter the full e-mail address. You may see two entries for the same contact. This can occur when you add a Messenger contact that uses both Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. To determine if a contact is using Yahoo! Messenger: Open a conversation window in Messenger. If there is a Yahoo! Messenger icon under the contact's display picture, they are using Yahoo! Messenger. Hover your mouse over the contact's name in the main Messenger window. If their e-mail address is followed by Yahoo!, they are using Yahoo! Messenger.

Furthermore, Messer mario found this in the type library: "A friend on the {33013} network has added you to their Messenger List. To send instant messages to {33013} contacts, sign up for the {61143} Beta.". Whereas {33013} is of course Yahoo!, but does "{61143} Beta" mean we'll see a Beta-version with Yahoo! integration first? Either way, they better hurry if they want to keep their "first half of 2006" launch estimation.

An anonymous Messer sent me a copy of a message from John from the Windows Live Beta team, posted in the private newsgroup for managed messenger beta testers:

"Is there a build 792? Yes.

Should you be downloading it? Not really. To be honest, it's not officially released yet, test isn't done testing it, so you're installing it at your own risk. We don't have a date or time that it will be officially released. And, for what it is worth, you won't see any differences if you do use it.

What changed? I really want to know! I've really said all I can. Sorry."

You heard the man, just stick with Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0787.

is there any way to stop conversations being grouped on live messenger? for example it adds your message to the previous one rather than starting a new line for each message seperately.

Go into options then under message settings there is a check box with 'Show 'contact says' before each message'. Enable that setting and then close all conversation windows and it should work.

Hmmm... Am curious - I keep hearing people mentioning about "A Patch", "Mess PAtch" or something like that. What are those patches for and any unwanted side effects? Please show me some links on where I can get more info on this 'special' patches :shifty:

More info:

A-Patch - Click

Mess Patch - Click

Both patches are kind of doing the same things with small differences and various amount of changes. A-Patch is often out faster and slightly more stable while Mess Patch have a few more options. It lets you remove stuff you dont use, need or want to see on MSN. Like removing advertisment, remove the add contact button, remove the winks or packs button, add a always on top button etc etc.

Basicly recommend to install, play around and see which suits you most. (all they do is to edit the .exe file to remove/add strings). So with each new MSN version you need to download a new patch (of choice) and do it all again.

Can anyone explain to me how ad's keep you from using the messenger? Because that has to be the reason why people hate the ads to much. Or else there has to be something that the ad's keep someone from doing?

My reason is that I want a cleaner look, more minimalistic. If I can remove something that isnt visually pleasing for me or lacks a useful function to me I often do it. Its a matter of look and taste.

And regarding the patches I usually prefer A-Patch. Usually out quick and works all the time. Mess Patch has a nicer gui (which isnt really a choice thing but still) and a few more options but I dont really use it.

Works for me but I can't open the file, Windows says its from an "unknown publisher" =S.

If you downloaded through IE and selected Open from the Download window, it wont open.

Goto the place where the file is saved and then open it. It should work then.
