Ovechkin is a more physical player than Crosby. Crosby has been accused of being a bit of a whiner.

[Threads Merged]

LOL Crosby being whiny that has nothing to do with anything. Crosby isn't as mature obviously. The bottom line is no one knows who will be better in the future, though right now there is a gap between their ages like someone pointed out. Crosby's attitude and the backing he gets from people in the league I bet will help him more than what Ovechkin will get but either way everybody wins watching these two develop. I am still shocked at the rookie seasons for both of them

Wade Redden re-ups with Ottawa: 2yrs $13m

Leafs have officially re-signed McCabe for 5yrs $5.75m per

IMO Luongo and McCabe are VASTLY over paid

Luongo is a good goalie, but IMO overrated more than what he really is. He's definately not worth the $7m he's getting. I'd put him at 5.5m MAX. He hasnt played a single playoff game and his GAA is nothing to shake a stick at either.

McCabe... i'm shocked he is getting nearly $6m. The guy is a complete defensive liability. Sure he's good on the PP at the point, but in the rest of the game that is played 5 on 5, McCabe is nothing more than a filler on D.

They are paying McCabe like he was an elite player. McCabe only barely made Canada's olympic squad (due to injuries) which means he is not in the top 6 Canadian defencemen. Once you start considering non-Canadian players in the NHL, he falls significantly further back in the top 25 list.

They seem to think that McCabe will continue to improve but he isn't 26 anymore, he's 31.

I was happier with the signing of Tomas Kaberle at $4-odd million and I don't think that McCabe deserved any more money the Kaberle (in fact, if I had to choose which one to keep, I'd keep Kaberle).

Oh well, at least the Leafs haven't signed Luke Richardson (yet).

McCabe is a joke of a defenseman. I've seen a few TO games, and in most of them McCabe was out of position and made bad outlet passes.

Anyways, a lot of action today:

Marc Denis to Tampa for Fredrik Modin

Niklas Lidstrom re-signs with the Wings for 2yrs at $15.2m

Wade Redden re-signs for 2yrs at $6.5m per

Leafs buy out Domi and pass on the option on Belfour

Chara will test the market once his UFA status kicks on on the 1st

Both Sedin's re-sign with Vancouver for $10.75 for 3yrs.

isn't Luke Richardson that rookie who played the last game vs the Sens and scored on his first shift? I thought he was just there as a replacement from the marlies. And I also think J.S Aubin will replace Belfour for main goalie and I don't think Tellquivst is that good.. lol

Is it me or is the Leafs turning into the Rangers before the lockout?

Ovechkin is 20 and Crosby is 18, Ovechkin scored 4 more points last year. The development years from 18-20 are absoultely huge. I believe crosby will be an all around better player than Ovechkin one day because he still has some growing and maturing to do, plus he is a player that can make people around him better, he has leadership qualities that Alex lacks.

They both still have some growing and maturing to do. Two years isn't as big of a difference as you make it out to be. Will Crosby be better when he's 20? Barring any unforseen injuries, there's no doubt he will be. But he and Ovechkin are two different players. Crosby is more of a playmaker, and Ovechkin is more of a goal-scorer.

Does that mean that Ovechkin can't be a playmaker? No, it doesn't, because he's made some amazing assists in the NHL. Does that mean Crosby can't score? Obviously not, because he had plenty of goals himself.

I'm trying to figure out how you believe Ovechkin lacks leadership qualities, however. From everything I've read and seen, Ovechkin is the leader in the Washington locker room. I've never seen anything saying he doesn't have leadership skills that's from a reputable source.

Ovechkins linemates: Dainus Zubrus, Jeff Halpern and the lackluster D on that team which no one knows the names of anyways

Crosby's linemates: Lemieux, Palffy, Recchi, LeClair, Gonchar... and some promising prospects like Armstrong and Malone

Crosby had a better group to work with.

The top scorers on each team had pretty much the same finish

GP G A P

Sidney Crosby................................. 81 39 63 102

Sergei Gonchar................................ 75 12 46 58

* Mark Recchi................................... 63 24 33 57

John LeClair.................................. 73 22 29 51

so it doesn't seem like a big difference, also Pittsburgh finished with 58 pts though comprared to Washington's 70

Alexander Ovechkin............................ 81 52 54 106

Dainius Zubrus................................ 71 23 34 57

Jeff Halpern.................................. 70 11 33 44

Brian Willsie................................. 82 19 22 41

sorry about the formatting :\

Ian White was called up from the Marlies and scored on his first shift.

Luke Richardson is one of those 37-year old veteran/former Leaf players that Toronto likes to sign when they are way past their prime. Just wait, Toronto will sign Gary Roberts for another kick at the can.

Yep, arnott is a huge loss... :pinch:

Should have kept kapanen too...

Arnott may be a lazy player at times, but I think he would've easily been their best player next year -- I don't know if Madono will be the same force next year.

And Kapanen was a huge loss, as you said.

Good thing I'm not a Stars fan

GO WINGS!

Don't remind me about the new NHL being like the NFL... it's the worst part of the NHL now.

Sad to see Yzerman go :(

Dear goodness! The Ducks got robbed! All that for Pronger?

Dumb move...

Anaheim is loaded on the farm. They have the best crop of youth and talent comming up in the whole league. They can afford to lose a player or two. And those picks are probably gonna be low picks once Anaheim wins the Pacific division.

If you want to be a contender, you need to make sacrifices like they did NOW; they're also well equipped for tommorow. Pronger at 6.25M is fairly cheap IMO and Lupul is replaceable. With such a dangerous blueline, you really don't need Giggy at $4m. Giguere can fetch some good talent, especially considering his relatively low pay, compared to the unexperienced likes of Luongo, and other overpayed goalies in the league *cough*The-Odor*cough*.

Smid is projected to be an excellent D compared to the likes of Pronger but not as good. The way Beauchemin has been playing (damn I wish Montreal never passed on him), it made Burke's decision a lot easier. But with any prospect, you never know.

Look out for Dustin Penner, the kid wasn't even drafted; 6'4, 245lb, he's an excellent skater, soft hands, good passer and isnt scared to use his frame. I really like this kid. He only played a few games in the regular season and come playoffs, he had 9pts in 13 games.

Anyways, bottom line is that Anaheim is so stacked with prospects, they're one of the only teams that can afford to lose prospects.

Also, I think the 2008 first rounder is conditional that if the Ducks make the Cup finals, they will give up the 2008 pick. I think the deal was Pronger for Lupul (whos grandfather is part owner of the Oil), Smid, 2007 1st and 2nd rounder and a conditional 2008 first rounder should they make the Finals in '07.
