For a reasonably good interface, training and library of games for casual players, Chessmaster 10 is ok. For more professional quality of play, online features with pro players and a extensive library (with a mediocre interface), try Fritz 9: http://www.chessbase.com/shop/product.asp?pid=247 If you just want to download a quick client for some fun games with some online capability, then try Chess Rally: http://www.chessrally.com/ And there is always the free (if you ignore the ads) Yahoo online games at: http://games.yahoo.com/ch Hope that helps! Personally, I don't feel that any program is impossible to beat. Unbelievably difficult, yes. Impossible? No. If you have a multiprocessor machine (dual core too), then try one of these: Deep Junior 9 http://www.chessbase.com/shop/product.asp?pid=223 Deep Shredder 10 http://www.chessbase.com/shop/product.asp?pid=275 Keep in mind that unless you are playing at a Grandmaster level, most Chess programs will challenge you at their highest settings. I used to enter tournaments, and Fritz 9 gives me a challenge any day of the week.
