Vista 5456 CD/DVD driver issue?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if this is an issue for anyone? When i boot from the DVD, I get into the GUI and it tells me i need to load Cd/DVD drivers. I didnt know that my DVD drive wasn't being detected.

Ok, so I setup Vista inside of XP. It was fine because my drives work in XP. However, after I got Vista up and running, my DVD drive was no longer there.

This clearly means Vista has some issues with my DVD drive (NEC 3540A running 1W9 firmware).

This was NEVER an issue with previous builds. 5456 32-bit is what I'm trying. Beta 2 (both 32 and 64-bit), 5381 32-bit, 5365 64-bit, 5342 32-bit were never an issue for my dvd drive.

Please, don't tell me to make sure my cables are connected or anything stupid. Just let me know if this is a problem for people or not.

Oh and don't question my DVD burning techniques. 6X burns on Taiyo Yuden media that gets an average of 13 PI Errors / scan pretty much beats what 99.9% of what people burn. My media is out of the question. Even my old CMC magnetics discs burned Beta 2 fine.

System specs:

Opteron 170

DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D (4/06/06 bios)

OCZ Platinum PC-4000 2gb

NEC 3540A

WD Raptor 74gb

Seagate 7200.9

Hitachi 7K250

Wow! This *exact* same problem happened to me with build 5456.

I booted from my DVD and I got this stupid message that no driver was detected.

I cehcked out build 5308, and it was fine. Probably a bug. Hopefully, they will fix it.

I did some research on the net, and as far as I could tell, nobody else complains.

Glad to know I am not the only one with the problem

I have this exact same issue. I installed over XP, now my DVD drive is gone. I found one article that said to disable and renable the controller, when I do that, it opens the DVD tray, but then the drive loses all power, I can't close it. Still no show. A few days ago, randomly, it came back, I used it to install Flight Simulator X tonight, then rebooted and it was gone again. The bios sees the drive fine, but it's nowhere in Device Manager or Disk Manager. Your guess is as good as mine, but it's really annoying not being able to use my drive.
