But i'm glad beckham has steped down as captain, now he needs to retire. Shawn Wright Philips or Aron Lennon will be better on the right wing and give us the speed and drive to get forward. To many of the long balls came from beckham and the halfway line

wright-philips needs to play first, him not going to the world cup is his own fault for going for the money at chelsea, if he stayed at city he'd still be playing and probably would have gone to the world cup

I guess it's a british thing........I don't even have a clue who you were talking about until I read the

threads....LOL.......

I guess we yanks take American football about as serious as you brits take soccer :woot: :woot:

:alien:

rooney deffinatly didnt stand on that players crotch because iof he did that player wouldnt have been able to stand up for i dunno a good 20 minutes. anyway to any fan of any uk team whenever christiano ronaldo comes to your teams ground boo him even if your a man u fan like i am still boo him.

Thing is Beckham will still get picked for the England squad because of who he is, not because he is actually any good any more. Occasionally he pulls a sensational free kick out of the bag, but thats not enough to secure a place in the England squad imo. Hopefully Lennon will take his place.

The new captain should be Steven Gerrard for sure. He knows how to play good football, hes a strong character, experience footballer, all round good choice.

Well let's hope that Steve McLaren can rise above that, I hope he only picks Beckham if he is the most in form player at that time.

When Gerrard became captain at Liverpool he raised his game even more. Practically winning the Champions League and FA Cup on his own. He is an amazing player and an amazing captain for Liverpool. I would have no qualms if Terry got the captaincy though.

If Neville get's it I will cry.

Yeah we need players picked on ability and their current form, not because they are a worldwide football superstar like Beckham and Figo for example.

I think Gerrard for sure though, I don't think Terry is ready for it. I know hes had a good season with Chelsea, but Gerrard has all the leadership qualities England need. I like the fact he had a complete barney with Beckham over the long ball strategy that they kept playing in the first few world cup games. We need a leader with the balls to stand up for whats right, and not lie down and conform. :)

My biggest fear is that McLaren is the guy whos been making the awful England substitutions and stupid formations (4-5-1 anyone?) and we're stuck with him for another Euro/WC. I wish we had Martin O' Neill as our manager. He turns every club around he touches, like my local club Leicester City.

Exactly. Sven has not had the ball's to drop players who need dropping. Sven did a great job in Italy as a club manager, and even had a fabulous time at the start of his England career. Lately though, you can just tell he does not want to be there. The England team and fan's is full of passion, but we need a passionate manager to channel that. Sven just sit's in the dug out collecting his money.

Steve McLaren is a good manager, perhaps with a bit more passion than Sven, but I still think that McLaren had a very large input at the current World Cup, especially in terms of substitutions. I agree with you ziadoz, Martin O'Neill would of been a great manager for England. An even better manager for England would be Rafa Benitez, but there is no way you are getting him from Liverpool :p.

Gerrard for captain though I hope, although being the England captain can be a burden sometimes. I just hope that the decision is not drawn out and a new captain is appointed soon.

I'm also worried about Steve Mclaren because sure he's was under the great Alex at man utd, took middlesbrough to the ufea cup final, and worked in the england camp. But i question his desire and encouragement. Because from what i saw in the portugal match none of our senior players hardly did any thing great like they do week in and out at there clubs.

For me i would of loved Martin O'Neil as england manager just from talking on the BBC he isn't too affraid to say something and he is always on the edge of his seat trying to put something across.

I know it has already been mentioned, but I think they should go with their waterboy: Theo Walcott. He was spectacular in all England's matches. Plus the fact that he has never played any club matches, or any game of importance will have a strong influence.

Thank God Sven and his self assembled ikea strategies are finished. Steve McLaren is nothing to rave about either, but at least his judgement on players will be more sound than Eriksson's.
