+theblazingangel MVC Posted July 26, 2006 Author MVC Share Posted July 26, 2006 @matrixvipin, dont worry, you shouldnt have any problems installing windows media player and flash player through autopatcher. the 82/202 items selected include (looking at the above image) all critical and non-critical updates and some component updates which is great. you should go through the component update list to see if theres anything not checked that you think you want. as for the addons and tweaks, you need to go through the list and check what you want to install, i do not adise you simply check them all and be done with it. i can also tell that theres something up with your autopatcher installation, you have only 202 total modules whereas i have 224. make sure you install the full release and then all of the update releases in order and then run autopatcher. i expect you may have run autopatcher just after installing the april full release. How come this happened? My April Full Autopatcher is of 225mb. I downloaded from the link which you gave. And yes one more question If we need to install April Full 2006 Autopatcher why is there AutoPatcher_XP_Apr06_ENU_Update? I mean if we cannot put AutoPatcher_XP_Apr06_ENU_Update directly, whats the use of this? +theblazingangel MVC Posted July 26, 2006 Author MVC Share Posted July 26, 2006 @matrixvipin, i get exactly 202 modules running autopatcher after installing the april full release and none of the updates after it. so install the four other updates and at the end of installation for each one except the last uncheck the 'run autopatcher' option. theres no need to run autopatcher after installing each release, install all the releases and then run autopatcher. the april update release is for people who used a full/lite release prior to the april one, e.g. the december full/lite release. THak
Thanks for a great product. I may have found an issue with the July update. I am trying to run unattended (T2), but it pops up a window that shows all command line options for Windows Installer, and it pauses AP until I click OK. I downloaded the April full version, added May, June, and July updates. I am also using the /defaults switch with a custom .ini file. Any comments on whether this is a bug, or if I have just done something wrong? Thanks. +theblazingangel MVC Posted July 26, 2006 Author MVC Share Posted July 26, 2006 @matrixvipin, the next full & lite releases will be augusts. theres actually no need fr you to get a new ful or lite release though, all you will need is the august update release and apply it to what youve already got. @THak, it could just be an installer that wont work fully silently, or one thats experiencing a problem, or it could indeed be a bug in implimenting a silent install with it. i'll need to know what module it is. verfee
I've noticed a bit of a performance hit in regards to connecting to peers in Bitorrent after this last july update, is there any update that could've caused this? The reason I was suspicious at first is that I had always avoided installing kb893066 (limit max outgoing connections) that basically halfs p2p performance, but in recent packs this hasn't even being there, was it perhaps merged with another security update? KB893066 is a critical security update, p2p performance is in no way an excuse not to install it, especially when there are hacks to get around the limit of you really need too. the reason the update is no longer included in ap is probably because its been replaced with other updates. fyi, the connection limit is not on the total number of open connections you can have, but on the number of incomplete connections you can have per second. frank made an excelent post on this here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=267665 if you really think its going to help your p2p & bit-torrent download performances, then by all means change the limit. i seriously dont recommend you change it to unlimited though. psouza4
This message is for other people experiencing this problem (my problem is resolved). It's also intended to be read by the AutoPatcher development team for their FYI on a bug. I have Windows XP SP 2. I installed AutoPatcherXPApr2006 FULL (225 MB), then the XP patches for May (17.1 MB), Jun (48.5 MB), and Jul (42.3 MB). All in 'Full' mode. The patcher worked fine and installed all but one update. Searching around, I found this thread, which was the exact error I had for the same update (KB922481): https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;hl=KB922481 I opted not to change any of the AutoPatcher files and just installed the KB922481 manually. Since then, when I went to run AutoPatcher, I get the popular "module panic" error (on ".Net Framework 1.1 + SP1!") every time. Something about manually installing 922481 broke AutoPatcher, which was working fine prior. To be clear, I have an April 2006 XP Full install and May, June, and July full-mode update patches, also for XP. Uninstalling AutoPatcher and re-installing Full+all updates completely fixed it and it now shows 0/224 selected updates by default, recognizing that the patch is installed successfully now. -Pete I am trying to run unattended (T2), but it pops up a window that shows all command line options for Windows Installer, and it pauses AP until I click OK. Check out this thread. It may be the error you're seeing, depending on the update: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;hl=KB922481 -Pete Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/480012-autopatcher-xp-july-2006/page/5/#findComment-587739133 Share on other sites

+theblazingangel MVC Posted July 28, 2006 Author MVC Share Posted July 28, 2006 Critical security updates aren't automatically good, this particular "critical security" update is about protecting other computers should yours get infected since it slows down the speed that the worm can spread from your pc. Just say you valued p2p performance over security (But still wanted to be as secure as possible) what updates would you say should be avoided in autopatcher? i didnt say they were all good, but they are necessary, if you check out MS05-019 (KB893066), specifically the executive summary section, youll see that the update has five vulnerability identifiers, the first of which is a remote code execution vulnerability and is infact the sole reason the update is rated critical. you cant just assume that the only thing the update changes is to do with connections limits and refuse to use it because of decreased p2p performance. i dont recommend anyone skips any critical updates, nor most non-critical updates for that matter. in this thread i posted recently i wrote about realising a problem where sometimes critical updates included in autopatcher are replaced by newer non-critical updates and are so removed, however some people may ignore non-critical updates and so may be vulnerable. this is something i plan to correct when i have completed the PDMS (patch database management system) im building, but that may not be for several months. TaeBoX
Why hasn't anyone made an .md5 file for this? I made one for the English version. You'll need an MD5 checker of course, my favorite is QuickPar, but there are plenty of others. Just slap this text into notepad and save it with .MD5 as the extension. ; 236688689 05:54.26 2006-07-28 AutoPatcher_XP_Apr06_ENU_Full.exe ; 44420610 05:06.10 2006-07-28 AutoPatcher_XP_Jul06_ENU_Update.exe ; 50858675 05:36.44 2006-07-28 AutoPatcher_XP_Jun06_ENU_Update.exe ; 17999522 05:37.24 2006-07-28 AutoPatcher_XP_May06_ENU_Update.exe ; c4663848edef384b19e3d8b14a5649a2 *AutoPatcher_XP_Apr06_ENU_Full.exe 4462e49588c52312d7dba586314edb81 *AutoPatcher_XP_Jul06_ENU_Update.exe 8b608e0d7c8882ce91ef12c15ebc90f7 *AutoPatcher_XP_Jun06_ENU_Update.exe 429497f927ce4c4c725161c0f594ccd4 *AutoPatcher_XP_May06_ENU_Update.exe Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/480012-autopatcher-xp-july-2006/page/5/#findComment-587741373 Share on other sites

aliendna51
Hi! I love Autopatcher, but it seems MS is not getting any better.. I installed the latest July release and after that my Windows XP can't recognise any new USB device I connect.. It happend so with a flash disk and a bluetooth dongle.. Old USB devices that have been connected before are properly working. A similar thing happens with new virtual drives I try to add. They can be seen in the device manager but no drive letter is assigned to them, therefore they can't be used.. It happened so with DeamonTools and Alcohol120%. The same thing will probably happen if I try to install a new cd-dvd drive but I haven't tested that. Again, the drives that are already installed work properly.. Has anybody noticed something like that? Any suspicions for the responsible hotfix? Unless it's something other than that, but I don't think so.. And another question I'd like to ask.. I use nLite to create an installation cd before each format. How can I integrate the hofixes that are included in an Autopatcher executable? Can I choose which ones will be integrated? Haven't tried it yet, just wanted to know if it's possible.. Thank you! vearn27
Thankx and congratz to the AutoPatcher team for making such great application. I had been using and updating my AutoPatcher since April Full, May Update and June Update... However, I just installed July Update today and I seem can't get the KB922481: Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 (aka KB917283) to be installed. I had run twice, but yet after restart.. I reload AutoPatcher and this update still shown haven't installed. Is there something wrong?
