Bhav
During its first quarter earnings call today, THQ announced it has cancelled development of The Sopranos for the Xbox 360.The game was simultaneously being developed for PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 for release this holiday season. According to a THQ representative, the team found the 360 version wasn't shaping up to be significantly different than the PS2 version. THQ wanted The Sopranos for Xbox 360 to be a truly next-generation experience, but with the team split between systems it wasn't able to give the game the attention it deserved. Now a PlayStation 2 exclusive, The Sopranos is still on track for a holiday release for Sony's system. dnast
Well, I guess it's good they aren't just throwing crap out there in hopes that people will still buy it. As few games that I like from THQ, I gotta give them credit for skipping out on Smackdown for the PS3 launch because they seem to at least have some kind of pride in their product. They could just do like EA and cut as many features as possible just to get a game out of the door.

scumdogmillionaire
So basically by canceling this and smackdown they are saying they're incapable of nexgen development. nice.

Not really, they are saying they aren't going to release a half-assed game for next gen. They won't release a game on it until they can put enough people on it and make it worth while, and I respect them for that.

They could have easily just made it a "budget" title simply acknowledging the fact it was not taking full advantage of the console. Instead, they just cut production completely. Class move overall. +vlsi0n Subscriber¹ Posted July 28, 2006 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 28, 2006 I didn't know they were even making this title, so doesn't affect me at all :).
scumdogmillionaire
They won't release a game on it until they can put enough people on it and make it worth while I think that's a pretty good definition of "incapable" :) don't get me wrong, i respect them not putting out a 59.99 game when it's exactly the same as the 39.99 PS2 version and I probably would have bought it for my 360 cause i love the sopranos. but canceling 2 nextgen games in a week.. that's bad chi :)
