shockz
My 56K modem likes to spike really high at the begining of downloads. Then it goes to its usual 2.9 kb/sec. The highest my modem ever went was 27kb/sec. But that was like for less then a second.

DrMetallica
anything past 6kb/s on 56k is unrealistic  3 years ago, because of the crummy telephone lines in LA i'd get connected at best 33,600 bps or 33.6k best download speed i ever got with 56k was 3.5 i have roadrunner now 2000/360 so thats 245kb/s /35kb/s or something :) :) :) :woot: :woot: :woot:

Chick
I use cable from a small company on the coast in CT (myeastern.com). A little slower than usual tonight, but only $34 a month and it beats the hell out of the local DSL. In all fairness the local DSL is now owned by a Texas company and that is quite a handicap tp overcome! :D ugh ?33.6k modem download speed ugh ?typical 56k modem download speed slow ?single channel ISDN bearable ?dual channel ISDN ok ?IDSL ok ?150k Video Stream ok ?Fastest multiplayer games fast ?192k 'near CD quality' MP3 faster ?300k Video Stream rocks ?half megabit awesome ?1mbit barrier your download ?1433 kbps your upload ?118 kbps insane (2mbit barrier not shown) dude! darkmark327
My 56K modem likes to spike really high at the begining of downloads. Then it goes to its usual 2.9 kb/sec. The highest my modem ever went was 27kb/sec. But that was like for less then a second. that's because of how internet explorer downloads while you're looking for where to save the file. Since it's already started downloading it, and the timer hasn't yet started (because you haven't saved yet) it goes high at first.
