Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

That video in the Neowin news was incredible. I've had my eye on this game for a while now - partly because of my faith in Splash Damage and partly because of my Quake roots - but watching that video just makes me want the game more than ever.

I like how Quake Wars shares some of the same icons as the original Wolf:ET, as well as some of the voice work (the dude who says the Allies' objectives in Wolf:ET sounds like the same guy from the GDF in QW). It helps the game feel like a progression in the Enemy Territory series as opposed to being a completely new franchise. Having the same objective based gameplay really contributes as well. One of my initial worries was that Quake Wars would become a Battlefield/UTOnslaught clone.

The only thing I'm worried about right now is the vehicle balance. While I do have faith in Splash Damage's ability to create a well balanced game, those Strogg copters looked really powerful. Let's hope that the deployable turrets are able to keep the air units in check.

Sorry, it was my first quakecon and got a bit caught up in all the events. I wish I could've brought back more info. They wouldn't tell me what specs the machines were running either...

I just watched the QuakeCon footage, you would have been playing 'Valley'. :)

No problem, I would have been more concerned about the even myself, so compltely understandable.

From the video I watched of the demonstration, it appears as if they were using an Alienware comp.

Is that what you guys were using as well?

If so, I can go ahead and assume they were pretty powerful setups.

The main reason I really asked was so I have an idea of when and what I should upgrade my comp to get the game to run as good as possible. ;)

Major parts of the renderer were re-written to be faster and if you can run Doom 3 / Quake 4 well ETQW will run fine.

It'll even run fine on my AMD64 2.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, 9800 Pro most likely.

Great news. I can run Doom III just fine, so this is fantastic news. Thanks for sharing.

No problem. :)

It's annoying looking through all of the gaming forums and seeing people always telling others they'll need a whole new rig for the game when all they'll really need is a small upgrade like mem or vid card.

No clue. The machines weren't visible to anyone playing in the front row. Only monitor, speaker, mouse and keyboard.
