West Ham sign Tevez and Mascherano!

I'm still in shock how well Eggy has done selling biscuits! Does he own the Icelandic equivalent of McVitties or something? Coming from the rumours of ?100,000+ a week offers for Tevez to stay.

I honestly hope he stays, though the likelyhood is 10% or so.

Maybe our scouts should go searching the South Americas again, maybe they can pick up someone like Kerlon!:pp Bribe 'em by saying we got Tevez and Mascherano. Oh Mascherano is on loan and Tevez wants to leave, but we still got 'em!;))

Not heard much about him lately, the last I heard was Man Utd were looking out for him at the start of last season. But nothing came of it. He definately needs to come to Europe. Will probably go to Italy though! Bloody work permits!

Sheffield United have launched an appeal in the High Court claiming the arbitration panel made an error in judgement over the Carlos Tevez affair.

The panel turned down the Blades' claim for a new disciplinary commission to be set up to deal with West Ham.

This followed the decision to uphold the original verdict not to dock the Hammers points over the signings of Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

West Ham had earlier been fined ?5.5m for their handling of the duo's deals.

The Hammers were found guilty on 27 April of acting improperly and withholding vital documentation over the duo's ownership.

When Tevez and Mascherano were registered as players, West Ham failed to disclose that they had entered into an agreement with third-party companies.

Sheffield United had launched their first appeal after they went down on the last day of the season and West Ham stayed up.

The three-man arbitration panel, headed by retired High Court judge Sir Philip Otton, did not have the power to change West Ham's punishment but could have ordered a new independent commission to judge the case.

A Premier League spokesman said in a statement: "The Premier League has just been advised by our legal team that Sheffield United have launched an appeal in the High Court.

"Our legal team inform us that this is a very narrow window of appeal where Sheffield United are claiming that the arbitration panel under Sir Philip Otton made an error in law by failing to send back the original decision to the independent disciplinary commission for reconsideration.

"It is a matter of record that the Premier League has acted at all times in accordance with our rule book and procedures, as such we expect this matter to be expedited as quickly as possible and, again, we will not be altering any plans for next season."

This is getting stupid now...I mean accept it!!!

What good is this gonna do? I mean, the High Court cannot force the Premier League to do anything, relegate a team. Surely not...

Nope but all they want is a compensation package...which the PL don't want to give and rightly so...

The Premier League will block Carlos Tevez's proposed move to Manchester United if they are not satisfied the transfer fee will go to West Ham.

Widespread reports on Thursday suggested United are leading the chase to sign the Argentine star and that talks over a move to Old Trafford are well underway.

Tevez is considering his future, with West Ham United hoping to hang on to the Argentine after his influential end to last season.

He has suggested he is looking to join a big club over the summer, but any move to Manchester United could be blocked by the Premier League.

West Ham claim they own the registration of Tevez after the league accepted in April that the club had terminated all agreements with the player's agent Kia Joorabchian.

The Premier League are planning to keep an eye on any transfer for Tevez to ensure that West Ham keep their promise of owning his registration.

A Premier League spokesman said: "As far as we are concerned any deal to take Carlos Tevez away from West Ham has to be done directly with the club."

Tevez, who is currently away on international duty at the Copa America, has been linked with a number of clubs including United, Real Madrid and Internazionale.

The classy forward says he has received no offers for his services as yet, but that he was flattered by the interest from some of the top clubs in Europe in him.

As far as I am aware, I have not received any official offers," Tevez told Argentine newspaper Clarin.

"Once an offer arrives then we will see. But the fact that Real Madrid, Internazionale and Manchester United are interested in me makes me proud."

Considering West Ham apparently bought the players registration in April...I wonder how much they got him for?

Sorry to dig up an old thread but some new news regarding the saga *sigh*

West Ham are faced with having to pay a crippling ?30million in damages to Sheffield United after an independent tribunal ruled against them over the Carlos Tevez affair.

Fears that the decision was imminent are believed to be behind a fire sale of players at Upton Park this summer that led to the departure of disillusioned manager Alan Curbishley.

A compensation figure has yet to be set, but Sportsmail can reveal Sheffield United are demanding ?30,396,897.32 after they were relegated from the Barclays Premier League at the end of the 2006-07 season and a Tevez-inspired West Ham stayed up.

The tribunal's decision is based on the fact that Tevez - who had been registered illegally - was worth at least three points to West Ham in the relegation battle.

As a result of losing their Premier League status, Sheffield United claim they lost out on ?21,788,795.

Most of that figure is made up of television and merchandising rights, as well as bonus payments for finishing higher up the table.

The Yorkshire club also claim they lost ?4m from Phil Jagielka's transfer to Everton that summer.

They valued the defender at ?8m but a release clause in Jagielka's contract stipulated that he would be allowed to leave if they were relegated and another club offered ?4m, as Everton did.

The Shef Utd chairman has commented on it, so it is not just a rumour.

It is a disgrace to be honest. Sheffield Utd had 38 games to get themselves out of the ****, bitter idiots.

Yeah its real and supposedly we can't appeal it either which is stupid.

Although you have a point, so do they.

I do not think they should get compensation for being relegated - in my opinion this is less about Sheffield's relegation, and more about West Ham breaking the laws of the game. West Ham did break the rules that were in place at the time, and should be punished accordingly, and the fine they received was hardly in proportion to the gain they got by what is, in effect, cheating by breaking the rules.

I have no problem with West Ham, but it would be a worrying president to set if all rule-breaking off the pitch went unchallenged, unnoticed and unpunished. Believe me, if this wasn't Sheffield Utd that had been wronged in this way and was, say, Liverpool or Manchester UTD 'cheated' by Chelsea to, say, a league title under similar circumstances, there would have been a lot bigger fuss, a lot more coverage and people would not be so quick to belittle Sheffield's current position. And, judging by the latest ruling by an independent panel, they have a point.

It is typical of the spineless approach of the FA that they didn't enforce a proper punishment and review closer to the time, and instead applied a small fine as a token gesture so they could at least 'appear' to have done something about it.

Sheffield Utd broke the very same rule themselves a couple of years back though Farsight, they are bitter hypocrites.

Sheffield United were themselves investigated by the Premier League for breaking the same rule that West Ham United were penalised for in regard to the transfer of Steve Kabba to Watford - a faux pas which led to charges of hypocrisy.

It was later revealed that the Blades also attempted to force another former player - Lilian Nalis, who they sold to Plymouth in January 2006 - to sit out a game a month after the transfer took place; both clear cases of third party influence.

oh hooliganism, who says it doesn't have a place in football...

Yep thats how we sort our problems :p

Nothing better then a Millwall vs West Ham match outside the ground :D

/I don't condone violence btw

I have written a piece on my blog about this

Sheffield Utd broke the very same rule themselves a couple of years back though Farsight, they are bitter hypocrites.

Like I said, not saying Sheffield are innocent and don't necessarily deserve anything out of the enquiry.

The correct procedures should, however, be followed through and teams should not get away with breaking the rules. This should of course apply to Sheffield as much as West Ham. I think, whether it is their intention or not, this is a valuable procedure to follow through in order to discern the legality of what West Ham have done, and can set the president should anything like this happen in the future.

I really don't see why West Ham should be punished again. There is just something wrong about the whole situation which to me seems more about the Premier League saving face than anything else.

This isn't black and white, more a murky shady of grey. I also read somewhere that part of the reason for things going in Sheffield United's favour was because without Carlos Tevez West Ham would have been relegated. In my eyes that is wrong as you are making assumptions which cannot be proved. It could be very easily argued that had Carlos Tevez not been at West Ham there wouldn't have been the problems he brought to the club which eventually lead to them almost getting relegated. Football is too complex to make such statements.
