This driver is awesome. They finally put in full OpenGL support it seems, and games run flawlessly. The CP is complete too, so you can config your AA and AF settings. Great driver. Been waiting for this one for a while. Oh, and for ppl who don't have RC1 yet, it works a treat on pre-RC1 too. I'm running a 7900GT btw.

I really wonder if it is the graphics driverse that make these games a bit slower in Vista when they should be a bit faster. It seems to me my HD goes nuts everytime it slows down, and I have 2gigs of ram....

Anyways, can you overclock your GPU in vista? With like coolbits style?

Hey everyone, I seem to be having a very serious issue with the display (both in Build 5536 and RC1). I'm getting hellacious artifacts and glitches both the the drivers that were included with 5536 and the 96.33 drivers that nVidia posted on Friday. I installed RC1 about an hour ago and the problem is still there with both drivers. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem or not, but the nvidia drivers basically make the OS completely unusable. I have 4 screen shots as well so you all can actually see what i'm talking about:

Also, just so you all know what my hardware is, I'm dual booting Vista on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300). Here are my system specs:

Dell Inspiron 9300, BIOS A05

2.0GHz Pentium M 760, Intel 915SPM/GM Chipset

1.2GB of DDR2 533 Ram

60GB Hard Drive

Sigmatel Audio

nVidia GeForce Go 6800

WUXGA LCD Panel (1920x1200)

I haven't been able to file a bug report yet because right now i'm at work (can't remember the website to post bug reports at the moment). This is driving me crazy because I really want to use Vista. Also, this did NOT happen at all with Beta 2. The last build I used (where I noticed this started) was build 5536. And it continues on in RC1 :(

It happened to me. I totally freaked out, cause my PSU burned a few weeks ago, and I thought that my hardware was damaged or something. Then I realized that my other screen (I'm on dual screen) wasn't affected at all. Then I fiddled around with the parameters in the nVidia Control Panel (I have to switch the panels, I mounted everything backwards on my desk). And pfft. The problem disappeared.

My artefacts weren't really like yours, it was just flashing strange little things all over my screen, as if the GPU was somehow dead. Try to fiddle around with the clone/dualview parameters, it could help.

You didn't seem to specify whether or not your 6800 Go is overclocked? It also sounds like either a A) defect in the card B) somethings overheating. Best I can help you. :pinch:

Finally i'm able to get my TV display fine in 1920x1080! This did not work in any other versions of driver/vista, or with generic driver in RC1. :)

BUT the control panel is a joke. Theres a whole control panel, but only 2 stupid settings, where one of them is already built into Vista.

I need to get one of my displays rotated :(

And also, are they seriously not going to include 1680x1050 in neither Vista generic drivers, OR Nvidia drivers? I can't believe that!?

I'll try that, but everything is set to the defaults. Plus, since this is my laptop, it only has 1 screen selected. But i'll mess around with that again (the display driver keeps crashing though, so i'm not sure what it is).

My gpu is not overclocked at all. It does this on a fresh install of vista or an upgrade. It does NOT do this in XP at all though. I was thinking that the drivers might've been overclocking my card too, but its definately not overheating (one of the screen shots has i9kfangui in it, it controls my laptop's fans and also shows me the cpu/gpu/chipset temperatures and also the fan speeds for the cpu and gpu).

The other weird thing is that it did not do this in Beta 2 at all. It started with build 5536.

I am having problems with my NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE & Vista RC1, The drivers RC1 installed as default. If I did a System rating tool to get my system rating (Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Performance Information and Tools, then click on Rate this computer ) it would go through the process and get about 60% through, the monitor then turns off and the system is still running... wait a few minutes and nothing hit return and get thrown the BSOD, which informs me it is the graphics drivers. I then uninstalled the drivers and downloaded the official x86 30mb+ drivers for Vista RC1 from Nvidia.com.

I then had the issue of Installing the drivers it said that I wasnt running Vista, I assumed it was to do with the install setup I have

C:\ Drive : XP

D:\ Drive : Documents, Media, Files + Backups

E:\ Drive : Vista RC1

I found that the RC1 Drivers had extracted into C:\NVIDIA\WinVista\96.33, and I assume it was detected XP as my default operating system, so I then copied over those Drivers to E:\ so it created C:\NVIDIA\WinVista\96.33 and then ran the setup.exe from that folder... same error... So I then decided to manually installing the drivers from device manager...and success! it worked... try the system rating tool again... same problem monitor switches off at around 60% wait.. nothing hit return and nothing no BSOD this time! my card worked fine with xp but I am now facing issues either GeForce 6600 LE isnt compatible with Vista or the RC1 drivers dont install correctly! but on Nvidia site it says GeForce 6600 LE is Vista Ready

How can I go about installing the setup correctly when dual booting, as I think this is the issue all files are not being installed properly as I have been forced to manually install.

As you can tell from screenshots below for some reason vista has the vista windows drive set as E and XP one is set as C :s and now D: has turned to K:

Can anyone confirm what the Microsoft engineer said that if the display driver crashes, it automatically restarts the driver without any dataloss? the guy was going on about how they changed the whole way things were done in Microsoft, in regards to getting the gui to the screen, and I'm just wondering whether it was more marketspeak than reality.

Ew these are so buggy..

Better than getting a BSOD and losing all your unsaved work.

Oh, and everyone if you're only using one screen, go into the nvidia control panel and change the settings for single display acceleration mode, because it's set to multi display by default. Also, if you're running on AC power (not a battery) you may want to go into power settings and choose the high performance profile instead, as it does change some settings as far as the pci-express bus it seems. Also it tells the computer only to index when really idle.

Thats possible in XP too. With my old ATI card, it would happen from time to time that a game freezed, and after a few seconds it would jump back to windows telling me that the driver stopped working and was reset. No reboot - just approx 10 seconds waiting.

Well I tried to play PREY with the new Nvidia drivers and I got a bluescreen so clearly that doesn't work lol

I just checked the nvidia control panel, and its only showing 1 display (my laptop's lcd screen). Here's a screen shot:

NVIDIA_Control_Panel_96.33.jpg

Weird thing is i'm at home right now, and its not messing up "as bad" as it was when i was work, which is strange. Actually, until a couple of minutes ago it was working fine, now its starting to show artifacts again. This sucks ass though. Wtf could've changed since Beta 2 to RC1 to make the display do this (everything worked fine in Beta 2, it was just slower).

It's also strange that it says my system has multiple video cards when it doesn't. Its just a single GeForce Go 6800.

Edit (10:44am): Ok, so the display driver made my system lock up like "right after" i posted this. Restarted, and went through the nvidia control panel again. I think i found what Dojomann was saying too. The display setting for hardware acceleration is set to "Multiple display performance mode" by default. To get to it, you have to go into advanced mode and select "Manage 3D Settings". I'm not sure if this is the cause of my problems (I really really really hope it is because i'd like to use Vista). Either way, here's another screen shot:

NVIDIA_Control_Panel_96.33_2.jpg

I'll let everyone know if this solves the artifact problem (in the description, it does mention something about artifacts, so i'm not 100% sure), only time will tell (keeps my fingers crossed).

Not sure if this is old news, but posting anyway..

Got my new Zepto 6214w with a Geforce 7600 GO today :)

Installed Vista RC1 only to find that the card got no official vista drivers for it.

Found the "hack" about editing the inf file, and not sure if i did it right, but i got the newes 96.33 drivers installed on my 7600 go now.

My computers says it's a 7600 GT, but it works great in game, and even the nvidia control panel is working :)

Not sure how good this works for other GO cards, but it worked like a dream for me.

Just a quick update for you all. After changing the hardware accelerationg to single display, everything seems to be working fine now. I installed the Flight Simulator X demo, but haven't tried it out yet. Getting ready to go to a cook out at one of my buddies house's, but I'm bringing my laptop with me, so I'll let you all know how thats working out (still don't know why nvidia thought it was a good idea to make the hardware acceleration set to multiple display by default. Someone must've been sleepin on the job).

Alright, update (wouldn't let me edit my last post for some reason). Anyway, setting the hardware acceleration to single display performance mode solved the artifact issue. However, it created a new one. In the nvidia control panel, when i click the option to identify the displays, i never see anything happen (whereas in XP if i do the same thing, a giant 1 will show up in the middle of the screen for a couple of seconds). The reason this is a problem is because its almost as if the drivers can't detect my laptop's lcd screen as the primary display (as if there's some kind of external monitor connected to my laptop).

This causes a major problem after the system is shut down. When i turn my laptop off and then turn it back on, i see the windows loading screen, then after that goes away the screen is completely blank. I never see the login screen and it seems like the system locks up. I have to manually power off my laptop and turn it back on and select last known good configuration to get it to boot back up. However, when I do that, i get the artifacts back. Go back to the nvidia control panel and the hardware acceleration is set to multiple display performance mode.

I know the nvidia drivers are not natively supported by nvidia for some absurd reason (it's a freakin GeForce Go 6800, my desktop has a 6800 Ultra), but i'm using the modified INF file from laptopvideo2go.com. This allows the setup program to install the drivers for my mobile GPU. I do the exact same thing in XP and everything works as it should, yet with this, i'm having all kinds of weird issues. I know beta drivers + a beta OS is not a good combination, but at this point in the game, the drivers should be MUCH better than they are.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I can do to solve this issue? Not sure if i'd be able to contact nvidia and report this to them (as if they'd listen anyway).

Could you let us know how to achieve this?

I tried to disable the second display but couldn't find the option in the "Personalize"->Display thingie

In the nvidia control panel, go to Manage 3D Settings. Then, under the Global Settings tab, look for Hardware Acceleration. Then just use the combobox to the right to select Single display performance mode.

Err.. I was trying to find the NVIDIA control panel, but couldn't find it (I know how to get there in XP and I thought it should be the same as in Vista)

I might try uninstalling the driver and reinstall again though

Go to the windows control panel, then click on Addition Options. The nvidia control panel is in there.

Well I tried to play PREY with the new Nvidia drivers and I got a bluescreen so clearly that doesn't work lol

I guess it depends on where it occurs in the driver; IIRC, a good amount of code was actually booted out of kernel space, which should mean that only a very small driver should be required loading - something along the lines of a 'DRI kernel module' like they would have in the UNIX world; but with a heck of a lot more access, which can cause problems if the driver is crappy.

For me, I'd sooner have graphics cards come out at a lower rate (less often) and instead Nvidia and AMD/ATI concerntrate on really stablising the drivers rather than 'speed at all costs', before they ship their products; its all very nice being 'first out the gate', but if they drivers are crap, all you end up dong is putting a bad experience with your said product.
