Chicane-UK Veteran Posted September 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 6, 2006 There has to be a hidden agenda here - 24" iMacs right before this special event on the 12th? Surely this is timed just so that its affordable enough for people to want to make their Mac their home entertainment centre, and buy lots of nice videos off the iTMS.. flyakite
Woo! I just ordered a new 20" iMac and upgraded the ram to 2gb, the graphics to 256mb, and went with the wireless keyboard/mouse set. This is the first desktop Mac I will have ever owned. I own a 900mhz G3 14.1" iBook (Jaguar), but with only 256mb of ram and such a small screen, I almost never use it. I'm very excited. My current PC is so old (.13m P4 2.53ghz NO h/t) and loud. I'll be glad to be able to leave my computer on over night without feeling like I'm living on an aircraft carrier with jets constantly on the move. I wanted the 24" since it has the NVIDIA graphics, a brighter screen and better speakers, but it's just too big for my desk setup, and it was about $500 more than I had saved to spend on a new machine. Too bad it's going to be an estimated 2 weeks before the machine is actually in my possession. PyX
1 INCH MORE THAN WHAT I EXPECTED. And... I can get an nVidia 7600GT w/ 256MB of RAM! I am so pleased right now...!!!!!! That made my day, and even my week. Ordering an iMac tonight, and selling my PC next week! :) PS: Why wasn't it released yesterday or on the 12? Did they have problems yesterday!? serverman
I just ordered two 24'' ones from store.apple.com! One for my wife and one for me. I am FINALLY switching back to Mac after about ten years on Windows. Now that I can dual boot, I finally decided to give in. They arrive in the Seattle area where I live on Sept 19th. I can't wait! PyX
Two 24" is a little exaggerated :p Hey, the 7600GT is 2.3 times better than the X1600.. I can play games pretty well on the "now-old" 17" iMac, so I can't imagine with that... Student prices are great, I think I got a 12.5% off! It's better than nothing :p (actually it's a good rebate) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/493397-imac-24-released/page/3/#findComment-587857852 Share on other sites
Narlzac85
The student discount still puts it out of my poor student budget. I built my computer back in senior year of high school and hope it holds me another 2 years, that is unless I get some sweet engineering internship (ie. a paid one) next summer. ..Vector..
24" is go for christmas :D, parents said they would pay a sum and I make up the rest, starting saving .......NOW :D I'd like to see some performance comparisons between the 2.16 and 2.33ghz, i can't see that the difference is worth the ?150 it costs to upgrade (UK HE site that is). Think i'll just save the money from upgrading the cpu and upgrade memory to 2GB and the graphics card to the 256mb 7600GT, You guys think I would notice more of a performance boost from that rather than upgrading to the 2.33 CPU? EDIT: Found some tests: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=288 Wouldn't say it is worth the extra cash for the 2.33ghz tbh:ss Edited September 7, 2006 by ..Vector.. My iMac is replacing a 1.2GHz Celeron with 256mb of RAM and Windows - and I've been working and saving for this for over a year, so I can handle a few more weeks of waiting. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/493397-imac-24-released/page/3/#findComment-587862592 Share on other sites
