Forever Changing Post Counts

Recommended Posts

 ?I have to say I disagree, if anything the date you joined says how much experience you have, not the amount of posts or stars (aka pips) that someone has.

What if that person joined 2 years ago, left the site... and just came back. That person wouldn't have the experince you are talking about.

I think it's a shame that some people with high post counts seem to think post counts actually matter.

Why? To me it shows something I worked/achived for.

The thing that really ****es me off is the people that have post counts that aren't in the X000's complain about it. To me that just makes you look jeallous or something like that <- even though you may not be. However, thats what it looks like to me.

That's a fair point. However that doesn't negate that fact that post count doesn't indicate experience either.

I've never said I wanted a high post count at all and I wasn't complaining about my post count going down, so I don't know what gave you that impression. If you think I'm jealous of your or anyone else's post count then that's fine, coz I really couldn't care less about either your post count or such opinions. As I said before - and I notice you didn't reply to it -

my original point was really that we don't need them if that'll help keep the DB lean 'n' fast, if it doesn't help that much then I'm happy for them to stay if other people find them useful.
Useful replies are:

? Replies that show a persons opinion (e.g. Gooey)

? Replies that help someone in one way or another (suggestions count)

Useless replies are:

? One/two worders such as "cool" or "lol"

? Saying one persons opinion is wrong. No opinion is wrong. It's an OPINION!

I agree 100%. I would also add double posts to this. It happens a lot. JUST EDIT YOUR POST PEOPLE!! Most people here (or that frequent any forum) know post count means nothing. There are always those that have a high post count, but haven't been a member long.

Post count is nothing but to boost someones ego, or make them feel superior.

I would think setting a hard limit to the number of posts you have in one day would be a great feature. It would keep the post count down so the mods wouldnt have to clear the old posts so much, but it would also make the poster value those posts more, and hopefully help more people. As opposed to the one word posts.
