NBC'S Heroes

Haha, I was about to break KPak2006's post into little pieces, but I see you've already done some of that. That guy's got issues. Read this:

It means we cannot automatically speak english. Hiro speaks perfect english in real life so they gotta have him with a bad accent.
Obviously, he has some personal issues. I agree with Joel, XT., Am_I_Evil and Julius Caro. I really don't see the problem with the fact that they casted Asian actors for the role of the two Japanese guys. And the fact that Ando likes pornography doesn't make him a pervert. Also, it's necessary for the storyline, giving us the impression that the characters are closer to each other than they seem to be.

And I agree with everyone who has said this was an awesome episode. So much went on! I think it's the episode with the most action so far. Thumbs up.

Seeing as how Niki (Jessica) shot the rifle at the end of the episode, I have this sneaking suspicion that the bullet will go right through him, seeing as how he can walk through walls and other objects.

Other than that it was ann excellent episode and can't wait for the next one. It's cool seeing Mohinder coming back into his father's footsteps.

I said I taken my posts from another forum.

Most asians I got this source from said it was a negative stereotype of asians in american media.

and what's the problem with that?

he's playing someone from another country...a country in which he doesn't speak English...he is currently learning english....

what's the problem?

The actor speaks perfect english off camera yet has to put on a fake accent to get mocked at.

I just realized something...

Peter, the one that absorbs other peoples powers... when the cops were coming and he snapped back his leg/ankle... how'd he do that? I thought he had to be within close range in order to use the other persons powers, yet the girl was crying to her step-father...

He absorbed her powers when he was around her when they were running away for quite awhile. Then when she came back when he was on the ground and healing. Since they never explained how long the powers stay with him, we can't really complain.

Yup, I thought the same. I really doubt she killed him. As she was about to shoot, I found myself yelling: "Make yourself see-through!" meaning to use his powers, lol...

"Other than that"? Did you not like that? It hasn't even happened yet, it's just a theory! :p

No you didn't. You signed under the name "TakenfromAnotherSite", which I thought was a weird nickname. Apparently, so did a few other people. Obviously it wasn't very clear.

Their characters are meant to depict an average Japanese person. Now, you conduct a study and show me that most Japanese people don't have an accent and speak perfect english, the way americans with an asian heritage do, I'll make a public apology to you in name of the show. But even if that was the case, it wouldn't be wrong for them (writers/producers) to have picked a person with a Japanese accent to have special powers. The fact that they're so ordinary makes the fact that Hiro has powers even cooler, by contrasting. Sci-Fi: Wow, if that average-Joe from Japan has powers, it could happen to me, an average Joe in Mexico!

Dude, drop this point. If it was "taken from another site" then let them handle the people with issues. If you share their feelings, then get some help, find someone to talk to about this. I can't believe people are playing the race card when Hiro has one of the coolest powers in the show. Hard to keep everyone satisfied, I guess.

He had already been close to Claire a couple of times. She also bumped into him before, so they even touched. That must've been enough for him to "charge up". ;)

Who's mocking him? You?

The man is an actor following a script that has his character originating from another country where English is not the first language. It would be even more stupid if he had spoken perfect English in that light.

Did you think that Pat Morita was mocked when he played in Karate Kid?

what what you mean bang save the cheerleader save the world (whispers) lol. btw chris great myspace page.

In that context, I guess you're right. I thought the original quote was saying how Peter living was the "future" that was changed.

Thanks, just a simple little thing, but at least it doesn't send people into epileptic fits.

Pat Morita NEVER had broken english. Even in the show happy days, people understood what he was saying.

I've been to about 4 asian american forums that say this show is a NEGATIVE portrayal. Even Daniel Dae kim ( cast on the show lost ) said they ( producers ) could've find someone who speaks japanese fluent & english fluent instead of giving it to a person who speaks broken english or acts geeky.

I can provide you with links to those forums if you want & even a username & password. Just send me a pm please.

I'm sorry, but I really don't care if someone is offended by it. Ando speaks fine and acts completely differently. It's a character portrayal, not a condescending portrayal of Asians. If it were one big stereotype, Ando would behave just like Hirro. Please get over yourselves.

Have you ever seen The Karate Kid? People understand Hiro too, you know. Otherwise we'd be complaining the show was in Japanese.

The facts that Hiro and Ando don't speak perfect English and one of them is excitable are incontrovertible evidence that all Americans are racist.

I boiled down the article you posted to its essence and found the article to be lacking any substance. And it reads a little too much into it.

A lot of people just enjoy the show and don't try to pick it apart; it's got flaws, but you suspend your disbelief a little bit every time you watch or read any fictional work. The person who wrote that article would be a little happier if he stopped going on a racism witch hunt after everything he sees on TV.

Since when did Hiro become the ultimate Asia ambassador ? He's just a CHARACTER! Negative portrayal of what? They have only shown TWO japanese characters on the show, since when do two people represent a whole society?

And what's the "broken english" point exactly? Or acting geeky? Is it bad to act geeky now?

And I've also read that koreans say that daniel dae kim's korean accent in Lost is a crap.

I've been to Japan multiple times and in my experience most Japanese do not speak English. Some that do speak very well, some that try to speak English sound very similar to Hiro. Does that make me racist? Am I perpetuating a stereotype? No on both counts, I'm just stating what I've observed in real life situations.
