0 YahoKa
Use partition magic to make 3 partitions - 1 windows, 1 linux, 1 linux swap. Install Windows, install Linux, and use GRUB as your boot loader (my favorite)... Or take a look at VM Ware (if it suits your needs). 0 altezza Veteran Posted November 17, 2001 Veteran Share Posted November 17, 2001 Partition Magic is very easy to configure but have to be careful when making adjustments. 0 Silvorgold
partition magic has NEVER failed me when i installed linux :D, unlike the partition creator thats on the mandrake cd when your installing linux, it removed my windows partition so many times...*sighs* Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/4995-dual-booting-linux-and-windows/#findComment-36936 Share on other sites

0 MulletRobZ
PartitionMagic always failed whenever I used it! That's why I use DiskDrake, the partitioning utility that comes with Linux-Mandrake 8.0. It's the only partitioning utility that I've ever used that works perfectly on my Fujitsu 30GB Hard Drive @ 5400 RPM. Fujitsu Drives don't support PartitionMagic nor FDisk. The partitioning must be done with their disk utility and then, when one wants to install Linux, then one can configure the partitions correctly. So don't use PartitionMagic if your hard drive is a Fujitsu. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/4995-dual-booting-linux-and-windows/#findComment-37089 Share on other sites

0 MulletRobZ
DamN, Linux is free if you download it, but if you have never installed Linux before, I STRONGLY recommend that you buy Linux, whether it's Mandrake, OpenLinux, Red Hat, TurboLinux, or whatever distro you want to install. For Mandrake, the Standard edition will do you just fine unless if you really need to run those 2500+ applications on Linux! :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/4995-dual-booting-linux-and-windows/#findComment-37091 Share on other sites

0 Firebird
just make some free space on the hard disk.. and use the "auto allocate", feature to auto config the appropriate linux partitions on the free space.. :alien: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/4995-dual-booting-linux-and-windows/#findComment-37094 Share on other sites
0 MulletRobZ
Another reason why I bought my distro is because it takes like 3 1/3 days nonstop downloading on my 56K connection and since it's frigged up, I just wouldn't bother waiting! :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/4995-dual-booting-linux-and-windows/#findComment-37095 Share on other sites
