Explorer shows full folder path

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new computer, and for some reason Explorer is showing the full path to the folder I am in as the window title. None of my other computers do this, they only show the name of the current folder. (in the screenshot's case, it should just say "My Music".

How do I change this so it only shows the current folder name?

Edit - Sorry, I must be retarded... Somehow I missed the option in the Folder Options box.

Problem solved.

Can I ask why you don't want the full path? It's more helpful in the long run.

I wouldn't really say so. When the full path is shown, the button on the taskbar becomes useless on any long path. And if you already have the window open, you might as well look in the address bar.

See the addressbar? Yeah that's why.

Exactly. I like seeing the full path in the address bar, but I hate having it cluttering up my window titles, especially on the taskbar. Because when I have multiple windows open, all I see on the taskbar is [C:\Documents and S...] [C:\Documents and S...] [C:\Windows\system...] and it's really annoying.

I don't really understand the point you're making where I bolded it, but I've found it useful to have the whole path because any save window will accept d:\apps\mozilla\firefox\ in the name field to navigate to the folder you want. So if I was browsing my nVidia folder to see if I had the most recent release of Geforce drivers, I have the full path to download to when I grab the file. Otherwise, I have to actually navigate again to the folder to place my download in.
