Frogboy Administrators Posted November 17, 2006 Administrators Share Posted November 17, 2006 Regarding the explorer crash thign when you first apply. It's a known issue, hopefully an update tomorrow to solve it. Microsoft removed the logon notify stuff so we've had a lot more..of a challenge syncronizing the DWM and WindowBlinds on boot up. but we have almost got it nailed. :: Lyon ::
So that Vectra skin on the screenshot - is it a remake to use the Vista engine, or is it actually an old windowblinds skin, but looks good automatically (with shaded/shadow/transparent) because of Vista "accidentally" transform it to a better looking skin? It's just an on the fly convert right now. Winswy said he would start making them for vista as soon as the new skinstudio was released. After the install of WB 5.5, i went to wincustomize and grabbed the last release winsys had but up....you can do the same with any WB 5.1 compatible theme, although currently ,they are not 100% Compatible. The differences you are seeing is because of Vista explorer.exe is different Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512933-vista-windowblinds-55/page/2/#findComment-588056011 Share on other sites
Meshuggah
well, i never restarted until now, and now i cant get into my vista. BSOD about 2 seconds upon booting, so the only thing I can think of (the only thing i installed) is Windowblinds beta. Oh well, ill work on fixing it tomorrow, no biggie. RootWind
Did they change how per-pixel borders works? I noticed it no longer works for me in Vista on my laptop (It's has old graphics: GeForce4 420). I was looking forward to WB compensating for no Aero support on this machine. Meshuggah
New update tonight that hopefully addresses the explorer issue some people have reported. tempted to install, but i JUST got my vista install running perfectly, cant afford to have it die on me again, lol. Definatly install it in a few more build updates though. I somehow think it has to do with my PCI video card that doesn't support Areo, but is supported in WB Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512933-vista-windowblinds-55/page/2/#findComment-588062020 Share on other sites

We think the explorer issue was addressed with last night's update. Regarding translucency on older cards -- the card has to support the DWM or else it won't work so if you have a really ancient video card, best to skip for now. One thing to remember about WindowBlinds -- it's just a user process. So if it doesn't work the way you want, just unload it. It doesn't change your system or anything like that. Hey brad, in my case, i have two video cards in my computer, one is WDDM and the other is XDDM, meaning it is not supported by Aero. Do you think that was the reason i got this bsod? I'm about to purchase a new PCI video card that is WDDM so I can have my 3rd monitor soon. I believe around that time I will reinstall WB 5 on Vista. WindowsOnIMac
This a good enough screenshot? :D Loving this, although, I've found some explorer bugs, but I guess that's what you get when you run a skin designed for XP and not vista. I'm sure it will only take a little bit of fixing up in SS to get this up in running. By the way, when I logged in, it said 5.49.020, but when it installed, it was 5.5 Beta for Vista, and didn't even require a restart to work. Hope this helps the few that were confused about the build number. "Vista" Vectra, heh. Love how that sounds. Anyway, enjoy the screenshot. I've been itching to try out Vectra on vista, ever since Frogboy posted about this last week. Now it's time. My favorite theme on XP, now on Vista! :D Vectra really is a nice skin, except for a single HUGE glaring defect: :( The UGLY blue-white line extending down the entire horizontal axis of the TaskBar which uglifies every one of my ClockTray Skins, even when the Taskbar is small. I normally use a double-sized TaskBar, so the Date and Time both display in the Notification Area. I can't use this great TaskBar clock with Vectra because of this. I LOVE the glass effect of Vectra, but must avoid it because of this ugly line. Clock Tray Skins work great in both Vista and XP otherwise. In fact, I would not use Vectra because of this glaring ugly line whether I used ClockTray Skins or not. PLEASE fix this... Otherwise, it's a great, even a superior, skin. ------- Apple Intel iMac 17" w/20" Apple Cinema Display (secondary display) 1.83GHZ Dual-core CPU, w/2GB memory ATI x1600 Graphics, w/128MB Graphics memory. Dual-booting with OS 10.4.8, XP Pro w/SP2 I have installed Vista Beta 2, RC1, and RC2 in a dual-boot with OS X, and I've also installed Vista RC2 as only OS on my machine. RC2 installs clean and swift on my Apple Intel iMac, with no problems at all. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512933-vista-windowblinds-55/page/2/#findComment-588074633 Share on other sites
Meshuggah
he won't fix it, as it was intended to look like that...if you carefully look at the buttons on the taskbar, they are "floating" and in order to achieve the floating look for double taskbars, he had to implement that line.....trust me, i hate it too, and when i beta tested the theme, i was always telling him that i hated it too (being that i have double taskbar) but as i said, it is a design theme, and it is his theme....he will not change it...however I have learned to deal with it, and i dont use one of those weird clock things....no point for me, as i have a watch :) Also, welcome to neowin, I hope you enjoy your stay :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512933-vista-windowblinds-55/page/2/#findComment-588075354 Share on other sites

CrimsonKnight13
I've been using WB5 for quite a while and I love it. Stardock is definitely doing the right thing by making WB5.5 take full advantage of Vista's 3D accelerated theme engine. This should make for very beautiful WB themes and make our desktops look like very organic or glass-like. I know this will alleviate some people's gripes about Aero and allow people to choose any Vista WB theme they want. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512933-vista-windowblinds-55/page/2/#findComment-588082748 Share on other sites
