I have a problem with USB drivers

Recommended Posts

hi friends!

I need help with this:

My problem is:

When i connected a USB Flash Memory on PC, Windows vista detected the new hardware, but don't install the drivers :(

kingston

Sandisk

Adata

vdata

LG

detect the hardware, but don't install the drivers :(

I also hit this problem earlier today. Vista refused to install drivers for any usb storage device. I later realised it was refusing to install built-in vista drivers for ANY device. :(

The fix....

When it fails to find any drivers for the usb storage device (or any device that you expect built-in vista drivers to handle), it'll ask you if you have the driver CD for it. Say no, and go for the option to tell it where to look for drivers, then browse to c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository

ensure you enable the "look in subfolders" option!

This is the physical location of all the drivers vista should be using anyway, and your devices will work again. Once you repeat this for each driver element of a usb storage device.

:)

Unfortunately there's no way to repair this behaviour, unless you re-install vista.

So you'll need to re-install windows or manually point vista to it's own driverstore every single time you attach a new device.

If it helps any, in my case it was installing daemon tools 4.08 that prompted vista to forget where it keeps it's own drivers.

Installing the earlier daemon tools 4.06 first, setting up the virtual drive, then rebooting, then installing 4.08... prevents this nasty driver problem occuring, thank god. :)

Didn't enjoy doing a full re-install of vista and all my software today tho. :(

Hi guys, no need to reinstall !!

Check the value for "DevicePath" in the following path of your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

I've just added the DriverStore-path and everything works fine now :D

"%SystemRoot%\inf;%SystemRoot%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository"

Greetings,

Daniel.
