Fred Derf Veteran Posted November 29, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 29, 2006 Anyone load this user page: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showuser=17398 Warning!, the Worm detection found on my system as been found in HIS sig picture! I can't find a problem with that user. We will be investigating this. As far as I know, it hasn't happened to a staffer yet but something will be done regardless (assuming it is within our control, of course). noroom
Enjoy my stay. I've been here over two years.... Sorry, in the future I'll shut my mouth, and let the site mess with you. That's not what I meant. What I meant was that when you report a post, you're much more likely to get the mods' attention, which would be prompt to report any issues to an admin, when required. By just posting a thread, it's possible that they'll miss it. nwBen
I was reading the article on the front page about the Apple secuirty fix, and all of a sudden the page changed to this. Why dont you get some proper ads that dont intrude like that? It's pathetic. Huy
I got it too, loaded up the home page and got something similar. Pop up came up, I hit OK (no other choice) and page went back to where I came from. I'm also on Mac, Safari, pop-up blocking enabled. I remember clicking to view comments on the free Vista/Office article. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/516958-ad-issues-go-here/page/3/#findComment-588094181 Share on other sites
Marshalus Veteran Posted November 30, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2006 I brought up the recent pop-ups with the the admins the other day. I'm sure our advertisers will be getting a swift kick in the butt soon. Steven P. Administrators Posted November 30, 2006 Administrators Share Posted November 30, 2006 We simply don't do pop-ups. I'll send yet another mail to our advertiser asking them if they enabled this in our profile. In fact, it was not a pop-up... there is no pop-up... it is simply a re-direct... Fax EDIT: I have disabled javascript on neowin.net as so far I don't get any more any re-direct... Fred Derf Veteran Posted November 30, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2006 One should not have to disable Javascript to browse Neowin. We will look for a more permanent fix. Why dont you get some proper ads that dont intrude like that? It's pathetic. All these sites contain FAKE ROGUE security programs because they're SPYWARE/TROJANS/MALWARE!!! I'm shocked the problem is still not fixed, this issue is very serious! PLEASE STOP ALL THE BANNERS because neowin.net became a vector for malware installation! right now a new malware attempt comes with this: http:// www. winantivirus .com/pages/scanner/index.php?ax=1&ex=1&ed=2&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]&aid=valuable&lid=sw7 Edited November 30, 2006 by franzon Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/516958-ad-issues-go-here/page/3/#findComment-588096091 Share on other sites
halcyoncmdr
Franzon, calm down. Neowin knows what the sites are and they are working to figure out exactly what the problems are. Many people are not experienceing this, like me, and only those who regularly visit this specific forum are probably the ones we know about. I can tell you right now that Neowin will not remove the banners because they bring in revenue that is needed, and not all of the banners are redirecting. The advertising company has most likely been swiftly kicked in the butt every 15 minutes for the past day to get it fixed, and it shall soon pass. You don't need to get so frustrated over this. As a workaround I suggest disabling javascript until the Admins/Mods post in here saying that they have fixed the problem. It is not that big of a deal. If it isn't fixed in the next couple of days though, then start getting angry. But I don't feel that your attitude is quite deserved by the mods or this community. mattrobs
I'd also like to report this redirection and dialog box popup. I'd never expected this sort of underhanded advertising from Neowin. Fred Derf Veteran Posted December 1, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 1, 2006 [is it so difficult for you to remove all the banners? It's a work takes less than 5 minutes... We don't have direct control over individual ads. We have complained to our advertising supplier (as I am sure other sites have as well). We now wait for our advertising vendor to respond to our complaint.
