Milan -
PLEASE, DON'T SAY "DISABLE JAVASCRIPT"!!!! DISABLING OR ENABLING JAVASCRIPT IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!! THE PROBLEM IS THAT NEOWIN.NET IS A VECTOR FOR MALWARE INSTALLATION AND ALL THE VISITORS OF THIS SITE POTENTIALLY ARE EXPOSED. Getting angry wont help! Stay calm, your computer will live, just pray and do the daily ritual of bowing down to it  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/516958-ad-issues-go-here/page/4/#findComment-588099894 Share on other sites
halcyoncmdr
Franzon, you are out of line I think. Yes, the banner may be trying to install something, yes you have to be an idiot (or n00b) to believe it. Just disable javascript for now and my bet is that when the issue is resolved there will be a post in here about it. Neowin will not remove the ads because they still get money with all of the ads that don't have the malware javascript installed. @ Admins/Mods/Whoever cares Possibly there should be a warning announcement for everyone just so: 1. Franzon will be a little quieter about all of this 2. The community that doesn't look down this low on the forums will know about it. 3. You will have done something proactive about it other than just talking to the advertiser. 4. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/516958-ad-issues-go-here/page/4/#findComment-588099953 Share on other sites
Islander
Hi and hello. I'm amazed, yet I guess you have to expect these things nowadays. I wanted to have a look at the "64-bit Vista is the way to go" News a few minutes ago... and every time I do, it ends up closing after a few seconds, and I get a very annoying little ad asking me if I want to scan my computer for malware. If I close that window (pressing the red X), another window pops up taking me to either "Drivecleaner" or "ErrorSafe" software homepage, which tries to install an ActiveX control and at the time asks me to check this and that on my computer... without success, since I use Firefox. Soooo... on one side (and because I just saw it) you guys at Neowin are annoyed of people using ad blockers... reasonable... but then, on the other side, this is what happens when you don't use them. I have NOT been able to read the news, because even if I stop the page loading, as soon as the window is focused (mouse moves over), the DriveCleaner/ErrorSafe ad starts again and the whole **** happens again. Your page is closed every single time within seconds. Well, hopefully you can contact the company that administrates the ads on your page... and remove ErrorSafe and DriveCleaner from the list of displayed ads. On a side note, where I live, a company can even be sued for that kind of forced publicity (not meaning Neowin, but the responsible ones). Thanks for reading and taking action :) P.D.: Could someone post the news article here so I can read it? Pox
I think you've got some bad ads on the news stories or something... because about every fifth I visit redirects to http://www.errorsafe.com/pages/scanner/ind...p;h=&affid=. Look into it? It's very annoying and I'm guessing very against the terms of use of the advertisement service. :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/516958-ad-issues-go-here/page/4/#findComment-588100147 Share on other sites
Simon Veteran Posted December 1, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 1, 2006 I think we need to look into getting a new advertiser. From the ad porn to this, we've had constant problems. I understand we make money off this, and I understand Neowin likely has signed a contract binding us to the advertiser, but we've had enough problems to get a ****load of money in a lawsuit. Tomi
I really don't see why Neowin haven't changed advertisers yet, this is like the 5th time there's been a problem. Luckily I haven't run into any problems yet; Vista/Firefox.
