[Guide] Short URLs in Internet Explorer

Recommended Posts

Right, ive done a quick search before, and couldnt find it (although it probably has been posted given the reliability of Neowin's search), so here it is...

By doing this, typing:

neowin

in the address bar will take you to neowin.net, and ebay would take you to ebay.co.uk (or anything to any site you specify).

People usually install extra software (such as google) to do this, but you have the functionality built into Internet Explorer.

Simply go to the page, add it as a favourite, and call it a one word item, such as bookmarking neowin.net as neowin.

Now, when you type neowin into the address bar, it will automatically load neowin.url, and take you to neowin!

Amazing how simple this is, and how little people know it!

if this works anything like keywords in firefox, you can put a %s in the url for search terms, and also have it search:

for instance, to search google:

make a bokmark for http://www.google.com/search?q=%s and then whatever name you give it follow it by the search term.

Test it out. I don't use IE.
