soporific
If you know of anyone who still uses Windows 98se, then give them this to autopatch their system. It was inspired by the autopatchers available on this site --- I've used the XP version for about a year and I was always frustrated that there wasn't one for Win98. There is now! My autopatcher doesn't work exactly the same - in fact in some ways its better, but in other ways not - but the desired result is the same. If you need to re-install your WIndows 98 machine, it would normally take hours to apply all the updates, hotfixes, and add-ons that have been relesed since the original OS came out. Run this instead. It is only for the ENGLISH version, so sorry if this rules you out! A French language version may be forthcoming. The current homepage for this project can be found here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=80800 I have not been able to find a good public hoster yet (maybe this site could host it) so the only place the full version can be found is on the ED2K network (emule, edonkey2000, etc) - the update to 1.7 is also available ed2k://|file|Autopatcher_for_Win98se_v1.7_Full.exe|207043044|E727A0593ACC10520AEB3442191DDFA6| ed2k://|file|Autopatcher_for_Win98se_v1.7_update.rar|32507679|4F018E44BE91794B841AD9D28B6D7B2A| However, there are public locations for v1.5 and the update to v1.7: download v1.5 from here: (180mb) http://www.filefactory.com/file/43b15f and then grab the update to v1.7 from here: (31mb) http://z31.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...;filepath=18522 version 1.7 screenshots: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ What is this project? if you have just recently re-installed your operating system, this program will save you hours and hours of time re-installing everything. Autopatcher includes: Internet Explorer 6 sp1, Direct X 9.0c (October 2006), Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8 sp1, and Windows Media Player 9. It also includes every update that has been released by Microsoft and every unofficial update posted on msfn. It also includes quite a few optional components like .Net framework 2 and the System Policy Editor for Windows 98se. The only things missing are the other unofficial service packs and update packs that are floating around. But there should be nothing critical from those packs missing from autopatcher. The goal in the end is to have autopatcher do everything you need to have your computer ready to go after performing a complete clean re-installation of Windows 98 se. However, some help achieving this is required. I do not want to try to make money out of this project, i just do it because I would find it useful as would others. I am open to joining forces with any other person who has the same goal as i've stated above. Please PM me if you are interested. AutoPatcher contents: * This autopatcher is different from all the other Win98 upgrade packs in that if you already have a fully patched computer, not a single update is applied. * All modules are selectable - you can set to INSTALL or BY-PASS * The following modules have been completed: - if a title has (optional) after its name then this means the title can be excluded for installing. Elliot B.
Is this better than the 'Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack' (2.1a)? NienorGT
It's not Autopatcher. Autopatcher is a made in Neowin no in MSFN. They are just using the name. ? ? akaladis Veteran Posted December 28, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2006 When I first read the thread's topic, I was almost sure it was just an attempt to bring the AutoPatcher spirit to Windows 98. Unfortunately this was not the case. Although I admire the courage to bring some kind of an autopatcher-like solution to an outdated operating system, using the AutoPatcher name for something totally different is something that we cannot accept. To be completely honest, I'm not sure *what* this topic is doing here. This is in not related to the AutoPatcher project. In fact, it's not even an "unofficial autopatcher". To the starter of the thread: I expect the naming issue to be resolved promptly. To everybody else: Just to be clear, this is in no shape or form related to the AutoPatcher project or the people who work on it. topic closed -- nw_raptor Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/525014-unofficial-autopatcher-for-windows-98-se/#findComment-588174307 Share on other sites
