Joseph Zollo
Alright, here's the situation....when I first upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98 SE, my audio drivers were fine. I recently did a clean install of Windows XP and now for some reason, my SB Live! Value drivers aren't working at all. They install ok but when I boot the computer, nada, no sound. I downloaded the XP drivers from the website but it still wont work. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, removing the card and putting it back in a new pci slot, reinstalling the original drivers from the CD...basically everything I can think of. Everything works under Windows 98 so It cant be a hardware problem....so it must be those damn drivers. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.... Roger H. Veteran Posted November 16, 2001 Veteran Share Posted November 16, 2001 You should have known this by now that SB Live Value cards for some reason don't work with XP well, only in some cases. 90% of the people who has them can't get them to work. Don't ever install the drivers from the CDS but there's cure for it though. It has something to do with DEVLDR32.EXE. I think you gotta use the files from XP with the old DEVLDR32.EXE from Windows 2K or maybe it was the other way around... Spike
I have installed the new XP drivers from Creative and it works great. If the card don't work with the Windows legacy drivers maybe the problem is the card. I have seen that you had a kick ass pc so you should upgrade your soundcard too. Spike
The SoundBlaster Live! DE 5.1 or the Mp3 Studio 5.1 are great and work in WinXP (i'm using one right now). They will be about 50$. If you want a cheaper card, the SoundBlaster Digital 4.1 is a good option too. Haven't had any problems with any applications. I'm not messing with any drivers right now...'cuz it works. ElGato
OK I got a SB Live! value, and it's OK, sometimes sounds a bit iffy in UT but generally spot on. Me mate got one too (similar set-up), and not had an issue at all, in fact it has always sounded excellent regardles of driver instaled. Click the 'Advanced' button (Go to Options->Advanced Controls) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/5270-sound-blaster-live-value-question-xp-drivers-not-working/#findComment-36544 Share on other sites
