Xbox 360 v2 : Codename Zephyr

Except demand really isn't there. There was an interview with Peter Moore a little while back where he even states that there are honestly very few people that own 360's that care about HDMI. Thing is, those few are making theirselves very loud and very clear (magik :p). Despite that, it'd still be nice of MS to introduce an HDMI option, even with little demand, as it is a kind of future-proofing, since things are heading the way of the HD-era anyways.

Well it's hard to measure demand, but I mean pretty much all new large HDTVs come with HDMI these days and it's beomming the standard for the next few years, so it would make sense to start including it.

I can see class action lawsuits or some other uproar of similar stature happening if this is the case.

I doubt it, mainly because people bought the Xbox 360 knowing what outputs it includes and which it doesn't. Microsoft never advertised it as including HDMI so there's nothing people can do about it really. It might suck for existing owners, if true, but many companys do it to their products.

Good. That means I have reason to keep calling bs on this until I see it, which is what I think everyone should be doing. Seriously, something from Xbox-scene, a renowned modding community shouldn't be considered official. It'd probably make their day to mod an HDMI port into a 360 even if the system doesn't work anymore.

Surely it isn't that far-fetched to think that Microsoft are releasing a newer, slightly updated version of their 360?

Microsoft are now making a profit on the 360's they sell.

Many tech sites have also reported that a new, 65nm version of the Xbox 360 is planned.

Now that two consoles have been released after it, it is probable that Microsoft's sales of the 360 have calmed down. A new, updated Xbox 360 could help to revitalize their sales.

Plus, they never did release that HDMI cable for the current 360. If that isn't possible due to the scaler chip only supporting analog, then a new scaler chip that is digital makes sense.

Filter04.

Gee, apple releases a new ipod every year or so and people praise them for being so innovative. Nintendo even does it! how many gameboy advances are there now? We're on #2 DS as well. Microsoft does the same thin and everyone is in an uproar. Just trade your dang 360 to gamestop, or ebay it when the new one comes out.

As long as Microsoft offer a way that current Xbox's can output to HDMI then the extra port makes no difference. Although would kinda make it strange that if it's possible with the current set up, then why add the port anyways. :hmmm:

Me thinks this is true now. The new pictures and video aswell as spartan's reluctancy to say yes or no (for obivous reasons) and his little hints lol, and MS not denying it (surely if it was fake they would deny it, as atm, people who want a 360 will be holding off just to see what happens).

OT - can't remeber who said it, but I agree, its nice to have an MS employee here. Gives the "evil empire" a human face lol. So a thumbs up to spartan lol.

'Except you're still inisstent on the Universal AV out not being configurable. As Spartan allready said, the Xbox is mostly software run, and I'm pretty sure that includes the universal out, and that it can be set so that when you hook up a plug with a HDMI cable, the AV out chip that provides the signals for the Universal AV out, can be reconfigured for the pins required by the HDMI. and that includes switching from analog video signals to digital.

I'm not insisting anything, all I am saying is that that is not how the current cable works. You're guessing that it is configurable. I'm guessing that each output pin is hardwired to the video chip as in a PC video card.

You could be right, I could be right. Who knows.

Edit:

As people have rightly said, if it's possible, why isn't there an HDMI lead out already? The 'no demand' answer doesn't really cut it, as every proper HD set has at least one HDMI, and they have brought out VGA, Composite, Component already. There's bound to be a demand for HDMI, if even to reduce cable clutter.

totally skipping the hdmi predicament here (i don't own a hdtv :pinch:) about the new hdd, - if it's real, how would we transfer game saves, media, xbla games, and other stuff from our old hdd to the new one? (if the hdd thing is true, i most probably will get it at some point)

If they were to make transfer of data possible via usb cables HDD to HDD, just a guess but, wouldn't that make it possible (or easier) to put music onto it that wasn't purchased on a CD.

I would definately feel bad if they brought out an ultimate version and I have the old core version lol.

Would the ultimate have a golden disc drive plate :p

I'm pleased Spartan is he cos he provides us with so much information.

Also it's just good to have a MS guy online with us, feels kind of personal, I dunno, I like it.

hehehe... thanks!
