Well, for folks that are hard up for HDMI, I could see the frustration. Personally, I think this is premature speculation. The 360 probably will have HDMI at some point, but I don't think we'll see it in 2007.

Microsoft would be better served to just come up with a cable or adapter that can cater to the HDMI crowd. It would save them money, save them negative press, and the consumer won't be fed a bunch of BS in the media about upgrading their components. Face it, the average consumer is not worried about 1080p. Most folks are barely adopting the HD format and will find going to 720p/1080i more than adequate. If MS has already sold ~9 million consoles, you really think even 1/4th of them will go buy another 360 just for 1080p? I don't. I'll bet you most people who already own a 360 are still on SDTV or barely switched to an affordable HDTV.

At the end of the day, business is business guys. You gotta look at the bigger picture. Plus Sony will probably pull something like this in the future as well. But more in the lines of a PS3 with inputting capabilities.

PS1 "Upgrades" in some cases actually removed things from the console, such as dedicated audio out and S-Video.

The PSONE added the socket for an LCD. Wow hardly worth A mention.

PS2 had an ethernet port added, very few games to take advantage of this.

As for your car analogy. Every one accepts the business model that car manufacturers use. You know that a new model with a slight change will be out next year. You make your choice on when to buy a car based on this knowledge.

You buy as PC or Mac in the knowledge that it will be out of date by the time you have got it home :)

The Console business has alwas been on a 4/5 year cycle. That cycle does not include revisions that add new functionality. You Buy a console based on this knowledge.

The redesigns of previous TV based consoles have never added extra features, at least nothing this major. The Sega redesigns of the master system and the genesis weren't anything major and the sony redesigns of the Playstation weren't done until very very late into the units lifecycle and all the ps2 redesign added was a network port that was hardly used in games and could also be brought for existing ps2's.

Nintendo have only ever redesigned pocket consoles, never the main system. Probally because they are cheaper and people are a little less upset with spending the cash on them. The only major redesign was with the gameboy SP that was laid out differently and included a backlit screen.

Redesigns happen all the time on Consoles but only in the interests of lowering costs and never adding features.

A console by its nature is SUPPOSED to stay the same for X amount of years before the next gen version is out, its one of the major advantages of them over a PC. Games just work on them, developers have no need to design it with 50000000000000 different versions of hardware in mind. Consumers don't have to worry about being forced to upgrade like PC's just to get the latest features. Upgrades should come separate like the HD-DVD drive and the hard disk drive.

I'll be pretty miffed off when games start coming out in 1080p and I'll require upgrading my 360 to use that (Yes for the record I have a HDMI 1080p capable TV)

Your argument using cars is flawed because they are a different product altogether and its well known they change from year to year and the product name changes. "Ford ka 2007/2007/2009" "Escort 2004/2005/power/sports" etc etc.

I shouldn't have to start seeing games appear with "Will only work in 1080p with 360 models from 2007 onwards" Might as well just stick with a PC.

Look at it this way, you have had the 360 for a few years now, you've bought around 10 games each 40 pounds. How much does that add up to? 40 X 10= 400 pounds.... Whereas 10 pirated games would be 40 pounds alltogether, the price of one game.

ya but think about gaming vs film watching for example.

DVD's will give you at most 3/4 hours entertainment for ?10 and then they sit around wasting away until a few months/years later that you want to watch that film again.

Games should give you much longer, some even going as high as 50/60 and they can be replayed different each time(No two gaming sessions are the same)

But ya I do agree that the price of games is a bit to high nowadays, ?50 for a first run game is a bit much, considering they used to be around ?25/30.

that's the main reason why we'll never see cheap video games, even if each game were sold at $15 a piece people will complain about how much you can "save" by pirating software/games.:no:o:

because your paycheck doesn't come from sales of your very own IP you can argue all that you want but for me and many people here who depends in this kind of market is vital issue, that's why I own a great deal of gratitude to all the people supporting our company with their wallets because in the end that's where my loyalty is at, the consumer.:blush:h:

I was arguing that the price is kinda justified based on the amount of time and entertainment you get out of a game compared to a DVD and other entertainment forms.

A few hours bowling is like ?10, a day out at a theme park is like ?30/40 if your lucky without other stuff.

So the price of gaming is decent when you look at it

Read Spartan_X's post, and realize that every pirated game takes away money from REAL PEOPLE, not just some faceless corporation. Then DIAF, it'll make the world a better place.

and your argument is just as flawed. There's only small things that are being changed. One is the ability to have native 1080p via HDMI and have regular wires as well. It's not like the games are changing, and MS has stated time and time again, they prefer 720p over 1080p for gaming. They are not going to tell their 10 million customers "you cannot play any of these new games, only people with HDMI can play this." That is just ridiculous, and if you actually think they would do that, you must have not really thought about the situation at all. If your TV can use VGA/1080p, then you are set, but if it cannot, who's fault is it? Microsoft, or who made the tv? or you, for not getting a tv that supported 1080p via vga (unless for some reason you bought your 360 after your tv purchase, but i doubt that The only big change is the hard drive, and it's not like you couldn't upgrade yours.

That "will only work" isn't going to happen. You are obviously mad about the situation and aren't even thinking about the company you are talking about. This is Microsoft, they a multi-billion dollar company for a reason. Besides, all of this is still speculation, hell, even with the chip, no one knows EXACTLY what is going on, so why spend all this time flipping out for nothing? Nothing has been officially announced, so calm down.

no one cares that you are too cheap to purchase games. Get a job and get over yourself as well. Just because you buy the hardware, doesn't entitle you to get the software for free. Maybe when you actually act like an adult and realize that the world isn't going to give you things for free, you will become a better person. You WORK to GET things. I wasn't saying that MS would turn around and say will only work in 1080p only, rather that this is a bit of a slippy slope that console makers shouldn't go down.(I.E Adding features to core parts) Regardless if some games are made to support 1080p its still depressing for those that only have TV's that only support 1080p over HDMI to be forced to upgrade.

I'd personally say that HDMI port is a big upgrade but then it depends if your an image freak or not, for most people its not a problem. I'm just pedantic >.>

I'm lucky because my VGA input does 1:1 mapping 1080p over VGA but again being pedantic I'd rather HDMI.

I'll admit tho that I'm probably just blowing this out of proportion, especially for something that's not be confirmed yet... I'll try to chill a bit >.>

WHAT IF Microsoft would exchange your 360 for a HDMI 360 for a small upgrade fee? What would you think of that? I just thought of the idea, and I doubt they would do this, but if they did, would you be willing to pay about the price of a 360 game to upgrade?

I wouldn't mind spending some extra money, however, I have nothing that uses HDMI so it doesn't matter too much for me. By the time I upgrade from 720p to 1080p, I'm sure more of these tv's will support 1080p via VGA.
