[PHOTOSHOP] Pattern / text effect

Hey all,

i am trying to do this effect using photoshop but i cant seem to get it.

Obviously when you pattern fiill some text in photoshop it simply fills the whole selected are with the same patters but i need it to follow rules for the pattern fill.

I want to be able to create new text and have it fill like the image above. i have searched high and low for this effect but cannot find anything on it other than using a brush and following the path manually

illustrator can follow paths with patterns. download THIS EPISODE of 'PixelPerfect' photoshop tutorials and Bert Monroy explains how this is done.

you could also get this effect manually by using the clone stamp tool.

however, using text and turning it into something like that is not really possible to my knowledge... transparency issues for fill, and there would be so many little inaccuracies with all the different characters.

the above effect was done manually for those specific characters.
