stunney
Might be out of game, but i have flu and am bored While searching Loki on microsoft, I found reference that one of their VP's is retiring later this month. Peter Pathe recieved masters from MIT in dept. that later became Media lab where David Reed later studied viral communications.(see post a few pages ago on website registration) Bio: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/exec/pathe/default.mspx Interview: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/feature.../01-04word.mspx
lindendragon
I got visuals of all the places (with the exception of Singapore since it's TBD) and with the exception of Canada, they seem to all be courtyards. Maybe it has something to do with being up high and looking down into the courtyards. (which actually would support the whole elemental thing). It's just a thought... The location in Canada is either going to be the Hockey Hall of Fame, or the Hummingbird Centre (but judging from the visuals of other places, it seems like it's gonna be the hockey hall of fame). The Toronto Hockey Hall of Fame
SuperRob
What is next? We don't know. But if there is something to find, our seemingly random speculations in this forum may just do it. After all, think how random the FILE pre-game entry was...finding the wave pattern? Plus, now that we know that there are 36 white boxes, there is obviously speculation towards that end (as we have half of them!). Is it a pattern that means something, or is there a deeper meaning to the parts of the whole? And what the heck is up with the glasses lowering once every video? And why would there be a seemingly crappy image loki.jpg to be found? (Sure they would have had a better picture than that one with all of the lines!).Sure, we may be spinning our wheels waiting, but as we wait, who is to say that there isn't more to look for? Just my 2 cents. Actually, the FILE thing wasn't random. We were explicitly given a .wav file, and it was nothing but tones. What do those tones mean? Morse Code, DTMF? What if we open the file and look at the waveform ... is there information being sent in the audio signal? Bingo. There was a method to it, and we didn't get to it by being told to look in one direction and going in another. That's the point I'm trying to get at, and which people seem determined to ignore. Games like this have official rules, and they also have unofficial rules ... rules that THEY have to conform to. Since this game is more mass-market, it makes sense that the rules would be more deliberate. There's a logic to it, and you'll get the answer by following the logic, are rarely by intuitive leaps. Think of it like this ... every answer we've gotten so far has been very obvious in retrospect. Some of the things that people are coming up with can be explained away by coincidence, but none of these answers can. That should be your clue that you're on the right path. In fact, 42 has been going back and "fixing" puzzles that proved to need too much intuition to solve, like the "Postcards" puzzle. Trust your instincts. Follow the leads. But trust this ... you'll know without a doubt if you're on the right path. If you have any inkling at all that it doesn't seem right, make a note of it and move on. Apogee
Well I would hope that 42 has created intermediate steps between the puzzle boxes to keep things moving on the boards. That's a logical assumption right? Between one and two we made contact with Loki.

confusio
Well I would hope that 42 has created intermediate steps between the puzzle boxes to keep things moving on the boards. That's a logical assumption right? Between one and two we made contact with Loki. I agree 100%, remember that the whole thing is not just a puzzle game, it's a viral marketing campaign to create buzz around the vista launch for which msft paid a nice chunk of money, they should have something to keep the flow going, what is it ?, I don't know yet if not, as I said before imho it will be a sign that again msft is understimating their most savvy customer base and the power of the internet as a giant connected group of people not just machines. Meanwhile I keep looking for clues, data, etc. Like this image: I found it in several of the flash files, could be a way to conceal the shape of the meta puzzle piece ? I don't know ... (This is not the actual file, the original is a 119x22 bitmap file) Cheers
confusio
Since we seem to have nothing to do, here goes a first game snafu ... Take a closer look at Week's 1 Pocket Watch puzzle, how do you will be able to synchronize the watches if on some of the them the seconds hands do not move and are static at different times ? Don't know what happen but had a problem uploading the image few minutes ago. And no is not related to the solution to the puzzle, just a side comment to kill some time. Cheers. kland83
But there is a particular lead I found interesting while looking at vanishingpoint.com (the domain registration isnot recent and ironically the admin contact email is provided by Apple :-) ), if you get on that page it makes a reference to "David Reed", and voila !!! look at one of the search results from google: http://www.media.mit.edu/people/bio_dpreed.html MIT (remember the prank)? Viral Communications Group ? Coincidence ? probably ... who knows BTW I sent an email to the folks at vanishingpoint.com asking if they have any connection with the game. I'll let you know what response I get, if any. Cheers Interesting side note on that route, if you search his MIT site for clues I found this line of text with a hyperlink attached under the heading of "Viral Communications" "We wrote a white paper about the concept." Any chance this might have a connection to the white boxes/papers theme? At this time I can't get the link to work but here is the address of the page I'm referring to. http://www.reed.com/dprframeweb/dprframe.asp Good Luck, Kland Plus I love the fact that whether intended or not, this game brings out a collective process that we don't always see nowadays. bikerdgnr8
hi guys...like you i've joined this madness but i don't know if i can help you in some way...so, i'll still tryreading a book i found the same word (opposite)...maybe is the opposite is refered to the question 'do spirits return?' Arcticwolf
I have been looking at all the puzzles and videos looking for any type of clue that may have been missed or overlooked. Seeing that there is so much time before the next box is unlocked. Anyway, while watching the first video (loki_time) of her in the "warehouse" she is sitting in a chair furthest to "her" right. The person shooting the video seems to make a point of showing an empty chair to her left. NOW, in the second video of her in the "warehouse" the camera shows the bottom of her chair (no legs of course) and there are chair legs to her right. Then they shoot her right hand holding the magicians cane and you can easily see an empty chair to right. :shiftyninja: As each puzzle gets solved and the next video is revealed, she appears to be moving chairs to her left.... Why? I have not figured this out yet but going to keep looking to kill time.
Karl Sheldon
Hi all, GodWi014 posted about a J appering on the /collectionplate page when you copy and paste it, well I have a shot of it on my blog page http://exaggerated-darkness.blogspot.com/ so head over and take a look, I have expanded it in word before taking screen shot as its around 12 point in size. It is a bitmap. Cant see where it comes from but must point someplace - ideas. Hmmm - Just had a thought is it just the way word indicates javascript ? The very first shot in the "magic" video that cuts to the chair ... you can't see Loki's feet, this is true. You CAN, however, see the cane. It's there, clear as day, and clearly being held by Loki. So where are her feet? Is she sitting in the chair crosslegged, or just sideways like in the first video? Is it even important? The number of chairs is interesting. Given that everything has a reason, why are there extra chairs? Are there extra people? Is Loki herself more than one person? It could be that the only reason why Loki could do a quadruple major would be if she were twins taking a relatively "normal" workload. It could also explain why someone interested in History, Folklore, and Stage Arts would be interested in Physics (disciplines that don't usually have a lot of crossover, interest-wise). One thought I had...Might the disappearing people be from amongst those solving these puzzles? MSFT no doubt is keeping track of each person, who first submits the correct answer to the various puzzles. Personally, I think it would be kinda fun, win or lose, to be on hand for the Vista launch and prize winner announcements. just a thought...

For someone wanting to be a magician wouldn't they want to study History, Folklore, Stage Arts, and Physics? phxmimms
Has anyone come across this name yet? Jay Dweck. Sorry if I missed it. If not... Mr. Dweck entered MIT with the goal of finishing in 2 years, in order to reduce the financial hardship on his family. He did so with a quad-major and went on to become (CTO) of Goldman Sachs. http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/learni...ok_at_jay.shtml Although I don't believe he is connected to the game, it's interesting to note a possible second MIT story that Loki has adopted as part of her "life story". Then again, Loki's early years are also incredibly similar to the set-up story of Carmen SanDiego. Child game-show prodigy, trickster vanishing from various locations around the globe, leaving clues for those in search of her, etc.
Arcticwolf
Loki states that her GPA was "exactly" 3.1416 which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Also known as Archimedes' constant. Now Archimedes had many inventions one of which was the "claw of Archimedes". The accounts of ancient historians seem to describe it as a sort of crane equipped with a "grappling hook". Could this be the grappling hook that is being put together by the meta puzzle?
confusio
Yes, on the last video she moved to the chair to the left. On the second video a couple of frames show her legs/shoes when on the last one no, but with as you said the magic cane detail. I've been trying to analyze what's the green reflection on her glasses on the last two videos, it's not scrolling so I guess is not a teleprompter, just some sign ? light ? Also I'm still intrigued by the gesture of lowering her glasses, is quite evident that she is making some sort of signal, and why that particular image is in the images directory of the server ? I'm still trying to connect some images from the very first video, there they gave us clues about the themes for each week puzzle, besides the evident ones like the pocket watches, the magician gloves and cane, the Herodotus book, I can't find yet what clues connect to the last week theme that we all believe will be about folklore. Some images ... What's the bird on this frame over the table ? Why they spend several frames showing this table ? Does anybody recognize what kind of flower is on this frame ? Cheers
