Quite a few private torrent sites might ban this build. 488 supposedly can report back usage etc (code is in there, not sure if it is activtated) since it was taken over by bittorrent.

uTorrent is just going to go down hill now, as Azureus has. Shame... but I'll stick with the older 1.6 thanks.

Care to back up your FUD with evidence? didn't think so...

how is uTorrent associated with the RIAA or MPAA?

God, some people are so narrow minded.

Isn't ?Torrent associated with BitTorrent? Isn't BitTorrent associated with a big movie studio? Isn't that big movie studio associated with the MPAA?

Just asking questions here, but the transitive property dictates that if all those conditions are met, then ?Torrent is associated with the MPAA.

I believe that a few months ago, BitTorrent "obtained" uTorrent. Some people haven't updated since, as they are worried about BitTorrents association with the MPAA/RIAA, and also about uTorrent being made rather bloated.

Bittorrent Inc now owns ?Torrent, yes, and Bittorrent Inc has done deals with the MPAA to distribute films legally such as on embedded devices (think of a Pay-per-view PVR that you download the movies on demand instead of renting the movie or waiting for it to come on the PPV channels) and to remove warez from Bittorrent inc's torreSEARCH ENGINE/b> however that's hardly "OMG ?Torrent HAS MPAA SPYWARE AWAHHHHHHHHHHHH" mentality of the other posts. In any case, it's an indirect relationship.

The whole reason Bittorrent inc. bought ?Torrent was exactly because it's small and efficient and is a whole lot less clunky than their FOSS example client.

You should really know about what you're posting before you post it.

...and quit contradicting yourself in the process.

MrCobra, M2Ys4U is correct in stating that uTorrent isn't associated with MPAA/RIAA. It's associated with BitTorrent Inc.

You could argue that there is an indirect relationship, but as some of the more grounded people in this thread have argued there isn't anything to worry about *yet* with uTorrent, and Brahm isn't stupid. He knows as soon as he adds any sort of "call home" feature, someone will find it (firewall/packet monitoring) and it will be posted all over the web before you can say RIAA. (This is even more supported by the questions he answered when this 'takeover' happened months ago).
