Fred Derf Veteran Posted July 15, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 15, 2007 Yeah, I got a bit lucky there lol. Then again, Mussina broke down again and Jones' closer status is in question. We both got a lot of question marks out of that trade. Now it seems that Harden will be down for quite a while so I've pulled the plug on him. I now need Carlos Zambrano to stay hot to make the deal worthwhile. The irony is that I was mostly interested in Rich Harden and I was taking Zambrano only as a wildcard. Fred Derf Veteran Posted July 30, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 30, 2007 I'm interested in moving Cincinnati closer David Weathers for a non-closer but this is exclusively based on the idea that Octavio Dotel will be traded and J. Soria will become the closer in K.C. If that doesn't happen then I'll probably regret any moves that I do make. Edit: I may need to make another 2 for 1 trade. I have all three of my disabled guys coming off the DL sometime this week and I will again have roster space issues. Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2007 I'm thinking that Adamb10 is pretty happy that Gallardo was left inactive on the bench today. Y. Gallardo (L, 4-2) IP:2.2 H:12 R:11 ER:11 BB:3 K:1 HR:2 Anytime that you give up more home runs than you get in strikeouts isn't going to be a good night. L3thal Veteran Posted August 13, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2007 I just noticed that Fred is doing what Virtual Madden did last year to be champ. That is, Fred adds/drops pitchers every other day so he can add up the number of wins and K's to win. Just this week, he added and dropped 7 pitchers and they tend to be the same ones, such as Bannister from KC and Kason Gabbard. Ironically, I still beat him in every pitching category besides SV's even after he added and dropped 7 SP's. I also lost Garza to someone else. L3thal Veteran Posted August 14, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 14, 2007 I still find that as a cheap way to try to win. Not saying you are being a cheater, but its not something many people do. You stick to your team and add/drop as you seem fit, not add/drop every day to accumulate stats to win. You stick to your team and add/drop as you seem fit, not add/drop every day to accumulate stats to win. Well, as I see it, we're supposed to be managers which means getting the last drop out of our roster as possible. It isn't an inherently superior approach, you risk losing players that you have interest in since you need to dangle them on the waiver wire. Starting a lot of mediocre players is no guarantee for success. For example, I picked up Randy Winn for one day because he had a doubleheader on Monday and he rewarded me by going 0 for 8. If you wanted to limit it next year then we could consider adding one day to the waiver wait time. I personally think that it adds some fun. I'm okay with exploiting any loophole that we all have access to. For example, if you have a SP on the disabled list, you can activate him from the DL right up until the game actually starts. As soon as it does start you can place him back on the DL and pick up another player for the next few days. While that may seem like cheating, Yahoo allows it. I've never actually had the opportunity to do that but I wouldn't have problems with doing so (or someone else doing it against me). It's a quirk but it's a legal quirk. L3thal Veteran Posted August 14, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 14, 2007 To each their own, I guess. Like I said, it doesn't sound fair for those that do moves when necessary to their roster but like you said, its not "illegal". I would have thought that the team with more wins would have got the higher spot but apparently not. Edit: If, at the end of the regular season, two or more players in a Head-to-Head League finish tied in the standings (based on a Games Behind calculation), the following system will be used to break the tie and determine playoff seedings: 1. Overall winning percentage. 2. Highest winning percentage in Week 22. Fred Derf Veteran Posted September 26, 2007 Veteran Share Posted September 26, 2007 I assume that people aren't really trying to win anymore? I was losing earlier in the week but I have made countless moves to squeak whatever extra stats I can out of my team. Nobody else seemed to alter their squad for Monday, for example. Nobody has attempted to go after the guys that I have dropped. Perhaps everyone is busy with school. At lot of my leads are currently only 1, 2 or 3 points so I'm still going to try to lock down a few more categories. Fred Derf Veteran Posted September 30, 2007 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2007 The 7th place game is going to go down to a final few key stats. virtualmadden
Oh well, haha. I didn't get into fantasy baseball as much as last year. Last year I had a ton of time to tweak my fantasy rosters, this year it's been a chore. Too much time devoted to Xbox 360, school, work, and relationships I guess. Good job everyone, I don't know if I'll sign up for fantasy baseball next season so it's been fun. (You bet I'll still try and kick some butt in basketball and football though) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/539454-neowin-fantasy-baseball-season-2007/page/8/#findComment-588892747 Share on other sites
