cswimbound
I recommend using copernic over this. Doesn't seem to be much of a tax on the system at all and it does the job nicely and efficiently.
lsquare
I have some quick questions to ask. How do I get WDS 3.01 to index all the files on my current desktop computer? Is it just me or that some files aren't index on default? I tried searching for a file one time and it doesn't come up with WDS and yet the Search Companion was able to locate it. daz-
my system is much slower with Windows Desktop Search, anyone noticed it? It might slow you down abit after its first installed while it indexs your drive. I noticed on one my of my systems, it almost completely froze it up twice for some reason. The only thing different on that system then 3-4 others I've had it installed on, was that I configured it to index a network share.

Brandon Live Veteran Posted March 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 8, 2007 I have some quick questions to ask. I tried searching for a file one time and it doesn't come up with WDS and yet the Search Companion was able to locate it. There's a control panel applet for configuring which locations and file types are indexed. Also note that hidden and system files will not be indexed. The default index locations include your user profile directory. Indexing locations like Program Files and the Windows directory is not recommended. *John*
I think we need to extend some thanks to Brandon here. He goes out of his way to support the Microsoft users of this community in many ways, and gives up a fair amount of time in doing so. So from me, and hopefully others, thanks for the excellent support Brandon, its very much appreciated  (Y)

sharky_k
In WDS 2.65/2.66 I used to use WDS as an app launcer by typing the first few letters of the app, which would then show in the results and clicked easily. When I try this with 3.01 it doesn't work. Is there some way I can get this to work again?

libertas83
Brandon, I am using WDS 3.01 with Outlook 2007 and I am hoping either you could answer the question or find out the answer. The Instant Search query builder used to have conversation in it, but I know longer have it when I moved to a new computer. Is there a way to add that field back in to the query builder? I found out that I could type [conversation]: to get the same effect, but would prefer to just have a field I can put it in. Also, the Windows Live Toolbar has Conversation as a button, is there anyway to make it use the Instant Search results where it is native in Outlook instead of the WDS results page? That would be a killer feature as it currently has limited interaction with Outlook. Better yet, add Show Conversation as a right click option in Outlook 2007. I have seen a macro achieve something similiar, but it calls the external WDS search results instead of Instant Search's native results. If you know how to change that macro to use Instant Search, that will work for me.
