6785077276
It's because of EIST, it drops the multiplier to 6x when idle to conserve power and reduce heat. Julienprz
Ok thanks :) Can you explain me what is the EIST and how to change it? please. Ok the "Enhanced Intel SpeedStep" must be turned-off on the bios, right? Pete Zaria
You probably don't need to change it. EIST drops your cpu from a 9x multi down to a 6x when it's idle. As soon as your cpu goes above 30-50% usage, it sets it back up to 9x. This way, when your computer is idle or near idle (such as surfing the web or just sitting there) it runs at a reduced speed, to conserve power and make the CPU's job easier. When you fire up a cpu-intensive program (rip a dvd, encode music, 3d games, torture test programs, etc...) it immediately clocks itself up to 9x. The options for this are in the BIOS, I don't know exactly where for your board. Look around. The default settings should be OK if you're not overclocking... Peace, Pete Zaria. DecomposingStar
That's how the e4xxx range is so power sipping. Turn it off if you want, but it's prolonging the death of your CPU. So i'd leave it :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/543966-9x-multiplier-on-bios-6x-on-windows/#findComment-588372160 Share on other sites

6785077276
I love EIST, really useful. My electricity bills are lower with these Core 2 Duo cpus :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/543966-9x-multiplier-on-bios-6x-on-windows/#findComment-588375864 Share on other sites
