GOM is a freeware media player that supports many features for advanced users who desire to watch video files at the best quality.

GOM Player 2.1.2.3406 is released. This is a minor release that addresses several issues. This will be the last release before GOM Player 2.2 Beta.

Following changes were made:

- correctly plays AAC audio on Matroska files

- better MPEG2 codec support

- supports DVR-MS (Microsoft Digital Video Recording) format

- fixed a bug where screen capture wasn't working for videos from certain URL

- fixed an issue with local M3U files

- supports remote (HTTP) PLS list file

- supports DEP

- new design for playlist window

- supports FVFW, FFDS video codecs

- libvorbis version upgrade (1.1.2)

- other minor changes

MPC only plays mpeg2 "out of the box" for anything else you need to install codecs. GOM is similar to VLC, KMplayer and MPUI (mplayer): you don't need to install any codec. After a fresh Win install you can install GOM, than all of the videos (divx, xvid, flv, mpeg2, with ac3, srt, sub) will be played.

the is why these players are so much bigger compared to MPC.

Personally, I still prefer MPC. And I don't need huge coded pack neither. Just install the codec needed by doing regsvr32.exe "pathto\namehere.ax" as for divix, xvid and anything else

But again, this is personal preference as usual

My mistake, maybe i didn't use my english fine :) These apps won't install codec packs, they contain all the codecs needed, and loaded and unloaded on-the-fly with the main application. So you only have codecs when you need them, quiting these apps will leave you with a clean, codec free system.
