Another little hidden change is that you have to hold down the Eject key for it to work. So now if you accidently press it you wont eject a disc.

im glad they changed it....i kept pressing the damn thing instead of the backspace

another problem i have with the dvd drive is the noise it makes when you start the computer

its 10.4.9 not 10.4.09

When did I ever say it was 10.4.09?

You're confusing mathematical logic with system version numbers. (10.4.9 has two decimals in it--go figure)

10.x.y

x = major release

y = minor release

In this case, Mac OS X Tiger is 10.4 and the minor release was 9. So following that, version 10 would be the follow up if Apple ever needed to release an update. (thus 10.4.10)

Is 10.4.9 the cause of my long startup time? Or because I just deleted my Windows partition? It sits at the white screen for a while and then shows the loading icon. :\

I've noticed that as well!

I was thinking it could be one of three things for me:

- Installing the Mac OS 10.4.9 Update,

- Removing my Windows partition via Disk Utility, or

- Installing my new LaCie Firewire (400) ext. hard drive.

If you discover the cause or a work-around please post.

I stupidly did the update and removed Bootcamp during the same reboot, so I can't tell which caused it. :\ I'm going to install Bootcamp on monday again to give Vista a whirl so we'll see if its still sitting there for a while.

(I deleted my partition via Bootcamp btw.. so perhaps it is .9 related.)

I can honestly say that I never accidentally hit the Eject key. Mainly because I use the physical sound controls on my SoundSticks rather than the ones on the keyboard/provided by the OS.

Personally I wish that Apple would make stuff like this optional instead of forcing it upon all users.

Well since mine is a portable, i use the volume keys quite a bit, i would be surpised if i was the only one to keep hitting the eject key

I can tell you right now that I used to hit the eject key at least twice a week. (confusing it for delete) Then the drive would make that sound and pop up on the screen. :|
