morebaker
My son just went to Disneyland for a week. Lucky guy! He left his PS3 folding. Can i leave it running 24/7 for the duration or will it overheat? I can check from time to time to see if it is getting hot. Jimmy0
You should be fine leaving it running 27/7, just like a computer should be fine. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/548246-join-neowin-foldinghome-group/page/13/#findComment-589402691 Share on other sites

Denis W. Veteran Posted June 20, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Everyone with fast GPUs: run this when you're not gaming. :) edit: one work unit finished in about half an hour, including starting/stopping it once briefly. How much does that equal to points per day? If the system tray's telling me there are 5000 points per work unit, then that's... almost 240000 per day? Edited June 20, 2008 by rm20010 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/548246-join-neowin-foldinghome-group/page/13/#findComment-589497274 Share on other sites

AbandonedTrolley
Just joined the team :) Running on PS3 and GPU client, although seems not that speedy. Running the 8600 M GS and only getting an average of 60 iter/sec am i missing some tweeking I should do in order to boost that slightly. It's on my laptop so can understanding it being a little down on performace. So in total, about 5200. Now that I swapped out coolers on my graphics card I can afford to run this client full time. Before that, I had a central vac under my desk. Just joined the team :) Running on PS3 and GPU client, although seems not that speedy. The test protein always runs at 60 iterations/second. AbandonedTrolley
One other thing i've noticed is that if I take the focus away from the client and just go use MSN the iterations drop down to 1 or 0 :s I can't see how msn draws that much processing power from the gpu ? Play around with the CPU Usage percent slider in the 'Advanced' tab. Also set its priority to 'Slightly higher.' It barely has an effect on normal computer usage. Also if you can't seem to get any cores: open up the log file and search for any 'UNSTABLE_MACHINE' errors. If there are, delete the Folding@home-gpu folder in %APPDATA%, uninstall the client, get the latest Forceware drivers (I'm currently using 177.41), then reinstall the client and try again. All up and running fine now thank you :) Updated drivers and seems okay, not quite the performance of yours but as it's only a mobile card I wouldn't expect it to be close. Averaging between 350-500 iterations per sec now :) I'm happy with that and the Playstation running. Better still I live in rented accomodation where I don't pay the electricity bills lol Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/548246-join-neowin-foldinghome-group/page/13/#findComment-589532194 Share on other sites
