Howardavatar1
Are there thoughts of a way to make themes and visual styles changeable with a program like Style XP. That was and awesome program for XP to collect a large number of different themes and styles boot screen ect and made it very easy to change between them. Is there plans for a similar program for vista? Also a web site like Theme XP were you can download large amounts of styles ect?;) TIA Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/555541-style-xp-for-vista/ Share on other sites
jimbo11883
The community has been putting out a few themes, but there still isn't an application to handle changing themes easily. Island Dog
I would say WindowBlinds is your best bet as there are already a large number of themes you can use with Vista, and you can even import your favorite XP .msstyles for use as well. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/555541-style-xp-for-vista/#findComment-588499930 Share on other sites

Frogboy Administrators Posted April 27, 2007 Administrators Share Posted April 27, 2007 There are some patching programs for vista that will let you modify the Aero.msstyles file and turn them into new ones. The main problem is that on Vista, there isn't a .msstyles format like there was in XP (i.e. it's really hard coded to Aero). Like IslandDog mentioned, you can use WindowBlinds on Vista and use .msstyles with it by using SkinStudio. As for boot screens, there are some efforts in progress to make it easier to change that. Rafael
The real problem is the new msstyles format has yet to be fully reverse engineered. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/555541-style-xp-for-vista/#findComment-588532678 Share on other sites
Frogboy Administrators Posted May 10, 2007 Administrators Share Posted May 10, 2007 The real problem is the new msstyles format has yet to be fully reverse engineered. There's nothing to reverse engineer. That's like saying the problem with the "classic" look of Windows is that it has to be reversed engineered. Aero != Luna. You can't mess with the buttons. Heck, you can't move or adjust the blur. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/555541-style-xp-for-vista/#findComment-588541172 Share on other sites

Brad, I was referring to the quality of themes today for Windows Vista. Until we fully reverse engineer the new format, we'll be stuck with boring, illegal junk. I missed the fact the original poster was just asking about a "patcher". My mistake. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/555541-style-xp-for-vista/#findComment-588675748 Share on other sites
herbicious
Mmm...if you really want to use 3rd party .msstyles, then Vistaglazz is the program for you :) it patches your uxtheme.dll with a few clicks. Then, just download themes for Vista from either DeviantArt or the forums here. http://www.codegazer.com/vistaglazz.htm Sorry, if it's a program like StyleXP you're looking for, I can't help.
