After many many years of designs and plan, Pompey have come up another stadium location and plan. This time prehaps the most expensive of them all at 600m all for a 36k seater stadium.

They want to move away from the 20k seater of Fratton Park, which has been home to Pompey for over 100 years. Places have been looked at but have not been suitable for the club or the local council. The Council wants Pompey to redevelop the current site. But to some extent if they did that, then the stadium prehaps wouldn't be big enough. Parking would still be a problem. While also prehaps making any location on the site for homes and shops would be pushed out the way.

This new plan prehaps is extreme, but is also very possible, as it allows not only a brand spanking top of the range stadium. But it allows them to sell apartments at a price and make tons of money. There is no name yet or even prehaps a sponsored?name?to?get?money.

If the plan does go ahead as planned, then Portsmouth will not only?just have a new shopping complex and the spinnaker tower. But prehaps one of the best looking?grounds?in?the?country.

The idea of a new stadium though is to generate more revenue as well as providing better facilities. The more fans in the stadium the more money the club generates. I think Portsmouth have a good fan base though so they should be able to fill the stadium?

Still very pretty though :D

I heard recently from a lecturer (I go to Portsmouth University) that following the war, Southampton/Portsmouth and other areas were told by the government to put aside some cash for future rebuilding and redevelopment, and apparently Portsmouth is the only city not to have spent their savings. I don't have anyway of proving this, or backing it up mind, I just overheard a lecturer talking about it a few weeks ago :)

Well Portsmouth is on the up at the moment.

Gunwharf, spinnaker tower and soon a big John Lewis store.

The reason why it would only be 36k is so they can put some apartments (mostly to make money and to please the council)

Anything bigger would mean the stadium would probably have to be moved off the island.

I don't think the council would fund any of the work. It would be done by the club and its partners, who could be paying the council in the way of houses on the Fratton Park site. If I'm correct any new houses bulit a certain amount has to be for social housing. Pompey look like they have solved this.

600mill? The 1,500 luxury flats could solve that! just look at the average price for the new flats in the area.

If we say an average price of 300k that what something like over 400 million? A nice chunk taken care of!

And the land will be owned by the council and MoD :) no need to buy it. And they don't want it! they don't have much use for a floating football stadium.

Meh, it's prolly just me but i think it looks kind of rubbish. Although if there is a game you want to go to that is sold out you could always buy a ticket to go up the Spinikar tower and take a pair of binoculars with you.

All i can say is about damn time, anyone who has been to Fratton Park in the away end when its tipping it down will understand. Don't know how they've managed to get away with treating away fans so poorly.

Got to admit it looks nice now all we need is global warming to kick in

Then it could be first floating football stadium

Knowing the way portsmouth is run it will just be a big floating bouncy castle instead.

Hey they do care about the away fans. They are putting up a roof!

But only on the away supporters. The police box will not be able to see that part of the ground :)
