Express
Source: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1178278277...e_whats_news_us Microsoft and Yahoo in recent months discussed a possible merger of the two companies or some kind of match-up that would pair their respective strengths, say people familiar with the situation. But the merger discussions are no longer active, these people say. The two companies may still explore other ways of cooperating. MulletRobZ
Such a merger will never happen, or at least not in the next couple of years. Not only would it be costly to pursue (some sources cited that $50 billion would be needed to acquire Yahoo), but Microsoft would definitely be faced with even more anti-trust lawsuits, should the Yahoo acquisition grant Microsoft monopolies in new markets. And then again, search (and search advertising) is not Microsoft's specialization. Their focus is on business computing solutions (Windows and Office) and to a lesser extent, gaming (XBox and Microsoft Game Studios).
