It's good to see prices dropping so fast on both of these formats :D Hopefully disc prices will follow suit.

Save another $100 on HD DVD this FATHER'S DAY

It seems that every week we hear about a price drop from either HD DVD or Blu-ray, and this week it's both. First Panasonic announced their DMP-BD10A for $600 and now Toshiba is announcing a $100 in-store instant rebate -- our favorite kind -- on any HD DVD player purchased between May 20th and June 16th. Assuming no other discounts, you can now get a stand-alone HD DVD player for that magic price of $299. This combined with the free movies promotion, removes any (price-related) excuses for not picking up an HD DVD player, and enjoying the Ultimate Matrix Collection on HD DVD.

I think I'll just wait until sometime next year when the prices drop to the $100 to $200 range. Plus, as you said, the disc prices are still way too high.

299 is in the 200 dollar range.

Think about it 1 more year of waiting vs 100 bucks

Thats alot of missed movie watching in HD over a measly 100 dollars.

'200 dollars' isn't a range. 100 to 200 dollars is. 299 is greater than 200. Therefore it isn't in the range of 100 to 200.

And a whole year waiting isn't a big deal-worth saving that money in my eyes. And remember, the discs will get cheaper, not just the player (hopefully).

And it'll just allow you to have a nice big HD movie fest/marathon which would no doubt be much more fun.

The promotion includes 5 free movies, though, so you can use that in your calculation...

hhhmmm...

the completion for an HD optical format is really intense...

Blu-Ray has the gaming industry (PS3), but HD-DVD has the porn industry

How can Toshiba afford this stuff? is it that cheap to manufacture HD-DVD players?

I have no need for the stand-alone player since I can pick up the the xbox 360 one for $200. But 5 free movies... now they have me thinking about it...

Heh. Vivid picked up Blu-ray and HD-DVD... so the porn industry is on both formats now. With as big as Vivid is, others will follow suit. But that's neither here nor there...

Good to see prices coming down on both sides for sure. It only benefits us.
