Global Moderator Posted May 18, 2007 Global Moderator Share Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) Perhaps this isn't the right section, but I wanted to start a Compatibility Guide for those trying to run HD-DVDs on their computers. I bought the Xbox HD-DVD drive, and I'm using PowerDVD Ultra 7.3. For those that don't know, Hardware Acceleration (Purevideo) must be selected in the Configuration menu for HD-DVDs to play. If anyone would like to add this list, please do. Here's a list of movies I own and their status: King Kong - played fine with UControl Deactivated? (Needs more testing) Otherwise movie plays with black screen and audio only. Trying Scene Selection does not work either. Constantine - Initially crashed PowerDVD, but played fine after program restart Bourne Supremacy - Perfect V for Vendetta - Perfect Mission Impossible 3 (2 disc) - Perfect The Last Samurai - Perfect Superman Returns (DVD HD-DVD Combo disc) - Initially crashed PowerDVD, but played fine after program restart. Once movie loads and starts to play, I cannot get to any Menu. No Scene Selection, no Special Features, etc. The DVD side plays fine, but at first run, after hitting Next for the movie to start; video froze and required PowerDVD restart. Menu system works though. Jarhead - Perfect Babel - Perfect Discovery Atlas Italy - Perfect Discovery Atlas Brazil - Perfect Troy - won't play at all. PowerDVD crashes immediately when trying to start the main feature. If I can get to a menu, Extras work fine. If the movie DOES play, then it only gets to 54 seconds and the video freezes, leaving audio playing. (Update) During the blue screen that says Rated R before the main feature plays, if I hit J on the keyboard repeatedly, the movie does play. J is the keyboard shortcut for Main Menu. The menu system works as well; however, when trying Scene Selection, PowerDVD crashes. Movie, Pause and FF works though. The Italian Job - Perfect Swordfish - Plays fine, but cannot access main menu and cannot turn off Subtitles Children of Men (HD/DVD Combo) - Loads fine, but PowerDVD crashes when trying to start movie. Resolved by selecting first or second scene and reversing to beginning of movie. Half Baked (HD/DVD Combo) - Perfect Clerks 2 - At first load, no text shows up on main menu. Workaround is to select a title in the PowerDVD menu, then reload the main menu. Text appears and is now selectable. Plays fine after that. The Good Shepherd (HD/DVD Combo) - Acts exactly the same as Children of Men. Loads fine, but PowerDVD crashes when trying to start movie. Resolved by selecting first or second scene and reversing to beginning of movie. (This resolution only works occasionally) - Coincidentally or not, both movies, as well as King Kong, use the same menu system. In all three movies, I have the exact same problem The Departed (HD/DVD Combo) - Perfect End of Days - Plays fine. Chapter Selection works as well. The movie has the same menu setup as Children of Men, King Kong, etc, but no errors. Extras play sound only with black screen. The 40 Year Old Virgin - Same situation as Children of Men (and others) Smokin Aces - Same situation as Children of Men (and others) 12 Monkeys - Perfect Sleepy Hollow - Movie plays fine. Extras play sound only with black screen. Discovery Atlas: China - Movie plays fine; however, if you FF or jump to a scene, audio cuts out for a few minutes before syncing again.
